I worked at American Health Information Management Association full-time

    Pros

Generally speaking, the leadership and fellow staff are fine people, but the organization made poor decisions with regard to future strategy and are suffering as a result.

    Cons

They struggle strategically; put too many eggs in one basket after ICD transition. They've downsized many terrific senior staff as a cost-cutting measure and the organization is showing the strain of the loss.

    Advice to Management

Try to get external advice regarding strategic planning and tactical execution.

Nice place to work with, flexible/Relaxing environment and meet beautiful people from different cultures. I enjoyed working for AHIMA and made a lot contribution in process and became part of AHIMA family.

    Cons

Less chance of Job growth if you are average person

    Advice to Management

try to retain people instead of finding a replacement and spend a lot money

I worked at American Health Information Management Association full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I grew a lot there as a person and as a professional. They had a great deal of trust in staff to perform as adults and professionals.

    Cons

When I left, the organization was experiencing much change. It majorly impacted morale because staff did not always feel they new or understood the nature of the changes.

Members do not seem very smart, are petty and jealous of one another, disrespectful to each other and staff.
Needs more staffing in the profit making areas.

Do not continue to coddle certain trouble making, unproductive staff members.

I have been working at American Health Information Management Association full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It used to be a pretty nice place to work. Then the culture completely changed and managers started micromanaging their staff.

    Cons

Everything. Managers are terrible. Everything is always broken. Micromanaging. Don't you dare suggest anything is wrong. You'll be told everything is just fine and you just need to go along with every ridiculous idea the leadership has.

    Advice to Management

Fire the current group of Managers/Directors and start all over.

I worked at American Health Information Management Association full-time

    Pros

    Very good benefits and pay.

    Cons

Very unorganized, lack of structure and biased.

    Advice to Management

Provide clear definitions of roles and hold people accountable in their positions. If there's a high turnover rate, took a look at your managers. There's a reason why the good ones leave.

    Pros

If you're a feminist or a bitter, man-hating woman, this place is perfect for you.

    Cons

Too gynocentric, too many women in power who shouldn't be managers.

    Advice to Management

    Get some men in there
