I have been working at American Institute Of Physics full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Office environment and daily activities are pretty laid back, benefits are good, and there are enough nice people that you'll prob. find agreeable colleagues to get along with. They're pretty good about offering resources to get your work done without a lot of hassle. Depending on the job they can be flexible about work hours/remote work.

    Cons

Leadership and management are a complete disaster and show almost no real respect for the staff that work the hardest with the most integrity. They like to claim having an "open door policy" but its completely fake. How much your feedback is heard and considered completely depends on your seniority and who you report to.
New HR efforts are making this a lot worse- new organizational and review practices are confusing and demeaning.

    Advice to Management

Pay your hardworking people better, especially when HR is announcing to staff that policy is to start pay at the lowest possible amount for your position description (obvious goal but probably not a good thing to announce to staff) while also bragging about how much surplus the company has and directors are spending tons of money on excess travel. Sad to see the direction the company is going.

    Pros

many staff are good people and believe in mission. some jobs provide good flexibility.

    Cons

exec leadership micromanages - staff give up because they are not empowered to make their own decisions. org always seems to be scrambling to make members and the board happy. HR manipulative & deceitful, largely avoided. little to no training opportunities.

    Advice to Management

    employee well-being=good productivity

    Pros

Clean office, friendly people, easy work

    Cons

Outdated work environment, quite empty, shady

    Advice to Management

Maybe don't put someone through the process of interviewing, hiring, and training only to fire their boss and terminate the project, causing them to lose their job, all within a week of being hired, and with no reason given!

I have been working at American Institute Of Physics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

AIP is striving to examine its relevance to plan for an impactful future; AIP cares about its mission and is constantly looking to improve. Great benefits; great rapport with colleagues.

    Cons

Strategic planning and implementation always bring about a level of uncertainty, which staff isn't always comfortable with.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the open door policy.

I worked at American Institute Of Physics full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are very good. The Melville office has a beautiful design with state of the art technology and every employee is given a laptop.

    Cons

Overall there is poor morale at the company. The leadership has not had a consistent growth strategy. They constantly change their minds and don't stick to a plan and often feels like their strategy sessions that they present at staff meetings are not thought through. It seems they want to squeeze as much as they can out of employees, adding more and more projects without more resources.

    Advice to Management

Stop and think before you present slides at a staff meeting that are inappropriate and somewhat offensive. Stop forcing a positive culture on the staff. Pay your staff fairly for the value they bring to the company.

    Pros

Flies the flag for physical sciences in general ....best outcome from this organization is the work and team dedicated to FYI. The communications team do their best but with little of value coming from the executive team, not much hope for miracles....

    Cons

An out-of-touch scientific organization ....with probably little relevance for technology advancement to the community at large. A untrustworthy management team, with more than their share of inappropriate self esteem...

    Advice to Management

Think long and hard about what you are creating....

I worked at American Institute Of Physics part-time

    Pros

Nice people, laid back atmosphere. People are more than willing to meet and collaborate on projects or any problems.Food was decent in the new lunch room.

    Cons

Culture was very weird, everyone stayed to themselves. Offices are very old fashioned, and the decision making process was super slow from upper management.
