I have been working at American Institutes for Research full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great experience for conducting research that matters for governments. Smart colleagues that work hard. Strong research assistants and good organization.

    Cons

Hard work is needed. Large organization, which brings some bureaucracy. Not always clear how organizational structures work. Overall a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

Continue on the current path and invest strategically in new research opportunities for the long term. Provide incentives to research associates to stay longer.

I worked at American Institutes for Research as an intern

    Pros

Everyone was incredibly kind and willing to teach me anything I wanted to know. Employees made an effort to include me on everyday processes. Assignments given were actually meaningful and allowed me to learn a lot.

    Cons

There was a lot of downtime and lack of consistency in workload. Sometimes, I had nothing to do and other times, I had a lot of things to do at once.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing with the interns--I think your interns really appreciate the way you treat them!

    Pros

Good company to work for. People here are nice and they have bagel Wednesdays. Lots of ways to get involved and do work.

    Cons

Does not provide benefits to temporary workers. Sometimes there is a heavy workload with minimal deadlines. Makes it hard to reach those deadlines without working overtime.
