I worked at American Medical Response full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers, great schedules for crews. Fair pay for EMS.

    Cons

Terrible leadership. Used to be a great place to work not so much anymore so I moved on. Kept hoping the new guy at the top would get it and engage but did not happen. Disappointing to see him and his friends run this place into the ground

I have been working at American Medical Response full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Free continuing education. Diverse work environments. some opportunities for advancement. Overtime opportunities. Living in a great city. Box style ambulances provide more room to work. No inter-facility transports for paramedics.

    Cons

The pay does not even come close to supporting the cost of living. Poor top down communication from management. Weak union. Dated equipment and old worn down ambulances in some districts. Some FDs have a culture of disrespect for ambulance personnel. Poor employee retention.

    Advice to Management

It will be a lot easier and cost effective if you work toward retaining employees by offering a wage that does not require massive amounts of overtime to support oneself. Less employee turnover will lead to paramedics staying with the company longer and there by increase the quality of care offered. Burnout is a problem. Less staffing issues will ensure that all units are covered and meeting response compliance which will lead to improved working relationships with local agencies and renewal of service contracts.

I worked at American Medical Response full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    GOOD benefits
    decent pay
    flexibility in schedule
    plenty of OT

    Cons

    Managers tend to micromanage
never get off on time from IFT unit
Can be held over late 4hrs, but if 2 minutes late you are written up

    Advice to Management

Drop the micromanagement ideals, and big brother overwatch. Also you say that you promote employee well being, and time off but your policies and local managers say something totally diffrent.

    Pros

I worked in Arlington Texas. The city was fun. Pay was decent. Lower level management are good people. Good protocols.

    Cons

Extremely dangerous hours are forced on you. Ambulances rarely have AC. Two week vaca if you get a red light camera ticket. Constant job threats. Upper management is horrible.

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees before you get someone killed.

    Pros

Decent pay...but...it varies. Forced schedule changes for SOME.

    Cons

If you want to be treated less than professional then this is the place for you. Will hire u for full time but not give u full time hours. Supervisors are less than helpful with new employees. Promise things to get you in the door then get mad when you ask for what was promised.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone equally. Be accountable to management screw ups...fix it immediately instead of kicking good employees down the road.

    Advice to Management

Give employees a reason to stay.
