I have been working at American Physical Therapy Association full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Staff are some of the most talented and intelligent people I have ever worked with. Great Direction from above. Clear broad vision of where the organization is headed.

    Cons

Not really designed for telecommuting and the building itself is old and not up to the standards that this organization should exhibit.

    Advice to Management

    Renovate!

"Great people, good company, some benefits on the decline"

    Pros

Great org for which to work
    People are knowledgeable and driven
Entire organization is located in area
    Close to Old Town
    Parking on site

    Cons

Tough location for metro transit. Recently APTA has made a few changes to the benefits structure that make it less than one of the best places to work in the DC area. For peole who have been there for some amount of time, this is a little frustrating. It's also hard to interact with all the employees, as they are scattered throughout three (soon to be two) buildings.

    Pros

While I was working at APTA the board's focus was on innovation which had a huge impact on my day-to-day work. I loved it, it was like no idea was too crazy to pitch. The people I worked with were all committed to the advancement of the profession and the success of our project. Everyone was incredibly smart, dedicated and talented.

The manager I had at APTA after it's reorganization in 2011 really pushed and grew my skill sets. She literally said to me "you're a diamond in the rough" and put me out in front of some of the best projects I've done yet.

The benefits were phenomenal, and I left right before the previously appointed CEO started restricting access to those privileges. More about that in the cons section.

    Cons

The transition to the previous CEO seemed to drive the organization away from its fundamental culture and credo I experienced in the five years I was there. I felt the impact on my management by the way changed their management style. After I left the previous CEO restricted the right to telework and increased the work day from 7 to 7.5 hours without a pay increase.

    Advice to Management

Continue to grow and push your people. Those who work at APTA love it, so give them the opportunity to advance. Keep innovating - PTs need it!

    Pros

A new change in CEO in late 2016 offers some hope for future positive changes.

    Cons

In 2016 we had a required increase of work hours without an increase of salary compensation.

I have been working at American Physical Therapy Association full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing benefits: retirement contribution, vacation, flexible schedules, holidays off, health plan, gym reimbursement, and more! Great coworkers and most departments have a great working environment. Usually not expected to work over time and most have the opportunity to attend the annual meetings. Best place I have ever worked!

    Cons

Your supervisor is probably the reason why you would look to leave. There have been recent reorganizations which left some disgruntled, and they took away all year flex time and increased the work day to 7.5 hours. However, they just fired the CEO who made these changes.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!
