Reviews about "work from home"
Return to all Reviews- Former Employee★★★★★
Pros
You get to work from home and free education for full-time employees
Cons
The company has lost it soul. All the long-time AVPs and VPs that have built the university are leaving because of poor choices by the board and former University President. It has become a degree mill with the recent General Education requirement changes.

Great place to work
Jun 11, 2021 - Human Resources Generalist in Martinsburg, WVRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Work from home. Free education. Family friendly.
Cons
Lots of changes ahead so hopefully it will stay the same or keep improving!
- Former Employee, more than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
Work from home full time
Cons
Upper management and lack of opportunities
- Current Employee, more than 10 years★★★★★
Pros
Work from home. That's it.
Cons
Increasing workload with no increase in pay. No promotions. Raises only based on publishing, not based on job performance. There is no time to publish with the enormous workload. Things get getting worse. Micro-management is out of control. It's like being an indentured servant.
- Former Employee, more than 10 years★★★★★
Pros
Work from home is the only pro
Cons
You will be working like a dog if you take a full time job here. The surveillance of employees is off the charts and students are treated as "customers" and not students. We are forced to give passing grades because the customer paid.

People can be great, but the rest is a bit lackluster

Cons
- Salary is low - Leadership is not communicative
- Former Employee★★★★★
Pros
Good team/work from home/helpful management
Cons
Not the highest hourly pay. Ever changing metrics
- Current Employee, more than 5 years★★★★★
Would Recommend to Others
May 2, 2019 - Admission Manager in Charles Town, WVRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Department leadership that is receptive to feedback, advocates for its team members and is easy to work with. [My manager is the best I have every worked for and one of the main reasons I have stuck with this company during difficult times. Being on the other side of those trials, I can now say I am extremely happy to work here and overly satisfied with my employment at APUS.] - Flexibility. The ability to work from home and flex time throughout the week for occasional accommodation needs. - Pride in working for a University that genuinely seeks to uphold the institutions mission, vision and values. - Commitment to quality education at an affordable cost. - Ethical player in the market place. - More and more steps are being taken to address silos, provide better cross-departmental knowledge, invest in employees and retain solid talent. - Solid benefits and decent time off. - Strong commitment to quality programs that obtain and retain specialized accreditation. Along with modifying policies and offerings to align with student demand and industry movement.
Cons
- Fast launch of new programs or initiatives that are not structurally ready for launch. - Too many systems within and across teams (currently being addresses) - A ‘never close’ mentality. - Constant changes from Academics that have a direct impact on both students and staff without taking those impacts into account beforehand. - Some lingering negative employees that refuse to move on.

Pros
work from home very flexible very caring about employees they do not micromanage at all great starting job
Cons
salaries are very low. I do not think they take into account of the cost of living at all not that many positions to work towards. all of the positions are in another state.

You Might Make More at McDonald's
May 5, 2021 - Professor in Charlestown, INRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Work from home flexibility is about all.
Cons
I'm a FT faculty member in the School of Security and Global Studies. I teach 6 classes every month, which comes out to roughly 130 students, or 22 learners per class. I also manage 5 classes and must regularly update them. So you may be wondering what this workload translates to in human terms? The answer is 10 -12 hour days 6 days a week. On the 7th day, it's more like 4 hours. When you break down the hours worked with my compensation, which is less than 70k, my hourly pay is around $10.00 an hour. I can honestly tell you my daughter makes more working the drive through at MCD than I do, when you break it down hourly. Even doing a crappy job with minimum interactions/feedback, my reality is 12 hour days, 6 days a week and Sundays 4. How could it not be with such outrageously high teaching loads? I've already got a heart stint and am not interested in another. This will be my last year teaching here. My doctor is pretty much requiring it.
