    Pros

There is nothing quite like knowing your work has the potential to impact countless lives. Having a caring and fair-minded CEO makes a difference at an organization such as this one.

    Cons

Some of the same challenges you will find at any large corporation.

    Advice to Management

Continue to value and listen to your staff at all levels of the organization.

I have been working at American Red Cross full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great mission, wonderful committed staff and absolutely amazing volunteers!

    Cons

Autocratic, top-down, micro-managing senior leadership. I went through 11 changes in reporting / 8 different supervisors in my first 4 years alone! Despite my team exceeding goals each year and taking on more and more work, not one supervisor has been able to talk to me about my future with the Red Cross or what is next for me. No succession plan combined with supervisors who are inept at growing talent will not help the organization attract new talent or retain existing talent.

    Advice to Management

Leadership needs to stop micro-managing and seek insights from experienced lieutenants instead of systematically ignoring them.
