    Neutral Outlook

I worked at American Red Cross as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is extremely friendly, and it allows you to develop team working skills and valuable communication skills. Great internship/leadership experience for high schoolers. I was on the finance/fundraising department, it gave me my first experience in dealing with budgeting, and dealing with finances.

    Cons

Hours are not always flexible. Will have to stay overtime. The program is not very organized, needs to be better oriented to promoting leadership amongst the high school students.

    Advice to Management

Employees, supervisors, themselves, do not seem excited about their job. Not very motivating environment for employees and interns to work harder. ARC needs to work on improving employee benefits.

I worked at American Red Cross full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good people
    Great intentions
    Good Programs
    Unwaivering dedication to their Mission

    Cons

National HQ out of touch with local Chapters
    Micromanagement
    Lack of Consistency
Unwillingness to address issues within the corporate structure

    Advice to Management

Lose half of the VP positions. They are high ticket / very low produce. Listen to your middle managers, they are the best link you have to what is really going on in your company. Volunteers are wonderful but most are not nearly as dedicated as your paid staff. Appreciate your paid staff. The opt to work at a low pay, high demand, few perk job Every Day.
