I have been working at American Republic Insurance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Inside sales position with some leads provided. Manage is knowledgeable and training was adequate

    Cons

Quanity and quality of leads were not good. Compensation base is low and because of poor leads bonuses are low.

    Pros

Broker for multiple firms, year after year commissions, smart management both local and corporate, great group of folks.

    Cons

none worth mentioning if you work hard

    Advice to Management

I worked at American Republic Insurance full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Office suite location was within 5 minute proximity to I25

    Cons

Poor training,ma/pa management business practices which lead to $0 production and commission for the Agents

    Advice to Management

Hire a staff that is willing to train your employees and not receive full commission for leads your new employees generate. Also provide actual leads and loose the cold calling on customers who've been preyed upon / contacted in the past numerous times by your organization.

I worked at American Republic Insurance (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good policies and service, but not the cheapest.

    Cons

Cold calling and going door to door. More importantly, when you leave, you are on the hook for any cancelled policies. In fact, you can be on the hook for even more if any policies cancel after you leave.
My strong advice is do not do it. There are insurance companies that are just as good with their policies, less expensive and vest the agent in significantly fewer years. More importantly, if you decide to leave, ynot only will you have spent a bunch of your savings, but they will hit you up for cancelled policies. I reiterate: Do not join as a rep.

I worked at American Republic Insurance (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are no pros to working here. It may be miles away from you home, you work long hours with no rewards and the closest place to purchase snacks or coffee is a gas station.

    Cons

The manager is a chronic liar. He is more controlling then the manager of a company that pays an hourly wage. He is unsympathetic to agents need to make money and takes no blame for agents failure.

    Advice to Management

Grow up and get out of the way. Learn the difference between self-employment and training for business ownership. Don't lie to people about their target population and/or earning potential.

I worked at American Republic Insurance full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They pay 60% commissions on several of their main products (10 months basis).

    Cons

Training is lacking when compared to competitors. Very high turnover of some quality hires.

    Advice to Management

Set up a better training program and stop regretting the same leads over and over.

    Pros

They are the only Insurance Company I could sell for and still sleep at night. In an industry with a bad image and rightfully so, ARIC is a company that will take care of their clients.

A lot of room for advancement

Offer tons of training in sales and products.

    Offer leads and advertising materials.

    Cons

    Start out with commission only.

Company name not well know so you have to be able to sell yourself.

Not always competitive on price, so again you have to sell yourself.

    Pros

Flexible Schedule, free generic marketing materials.

    Cons

Commission only. The leads given are at least 1 year old and are cold. The company is currently in a state of transition. Thier best selling product, Health Insurance, has been discontinued and replaced with a bottom barrel insurer. The commissions went from 14% for health, to a meager 5%. All this was done with less than 1 week notice to all agents. District managers are senile and as clueless as they come. The training for new agents consisted of a mail order pamphlet. Fixed annuities sales only, so no chance for sponsorship for the Series 6/63.

    Advice to Management

Next time you decide to stop carrying a line of coverage, give the agents a chance to get contracted with the replacement insurer...BEFORE YOU STOP OFFERING A PRODUCT!. Quit lying to agents about the "$100K" first year salary. Lower your multiplier for seniors in the greater chicago area. Try advertising.
