I have been working at American River College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is an overall collegial environment and many buildings are lovely. There is an option to work 4/10's in the summer. There are many on-campus activities one can participate in. Parking is free.

    Cons

Salaries for this position are not entirely commensurate with the workload. Systems are outdated resulting in more work and frustration and less efficiency. More duties moved from district office and administration to areas all the time without additional staff. Communication of policy changes is often inadequate.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate the campus staffing relative to size of enrollment, number of buildings and number of budgets and adjust accordingly. This is the largest campus and we are inadequately staffed. Get rid of paper processes - timesheets, requisitions etc. and automate to reduce errors and allow for tracking. Use an integrated scheduling and budget software. Create job share with district office so we can see the needs and challenges of each and we can be more helpful with each other.

I worked at American River College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours and a great way to meet fellow classmates. Not only are you helping your fellow classmates but it helps retain the knowledge you already have. Overall a great experience.

    Cons

Campus is a little overcrowded and the campus is not near as nice as Folsom Lake College. The pay is low but it's to be expected for the type of work.
