I worked at American Steamship full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It was a good paying job with benefits which are hard to come by in todays workforce.People I worked with were happy with there job knowing they could support there families and have job security

    Cons

It was sometimes hard work but you felt an accomplishment after a long days work. The company didn't value you as hard worker, they only seemed to care about the bottom line

    Advice to Management

Keep your hard working employees, it makes a much happier crew aboard your ships. There are no incentives to keep someone working for you if they are not treated with respect. These people give up many months out of the year being away from there families, missing holidays, birthdays, weddings and births, something management would not dream of giving up.

I worked at American Steamship as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good Pay, benefits. Vessels are older but a overall solid company to work for. I spent many tours working for this company.

    Cons

Hard work life balance. Older equipment needs constant repairs. Demanding work schedule. Physically demanding as well.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what your doing. It is a tough industry and a tough time but I would come back to ASC in the future if I would continue the career.
