ASA believes in advancing their employees skill set in technology. ASA invests heavily in employee training. There is good yearly budget for each full time employee.

    Cons

    Not too many company products.

    Advice to Management

    Add more products.

I worked at American Student Assistance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The location is convenient. The benefits are unbeatable. The Human Resources staff is amazing (approachable, informative, and helpful). They always do something to show how much they appreciate their employees.

    Cons

If you work in the call center your schedule won't be the best, as you have to work some nights and weekends.

    Advice to Management

Although I feel as though supervisors and managers are given too much power over who is hired, who is fired, their salary, and advancement in the company-you guys do a great job.

I have been working at American Student Assistance as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

This is a company that sets ambitious goals and expects work from employees to match those goals. Constantly working to transition revenues from FFELP loans to the new programs. Progress is seen often and corporate goals are clear!

    Cons

Nothing bad to say about ASA.

I have been working at American Student Assistance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Continued opportunity for professional development, corporate culture, and the people are the best! Money knowledge for college - and beyond is a mission I am proud to support. The student loan debt crisis is real and will have negative impacts on the economy far into the future, if something doesn't change. This organization has is making a difference one student or potential student at a time.

    Cons

I have no cons to share regarding this organization.

    Pros

First and foremost the work-life balance is spot on. When I interviewed here 8 years ago the recruiter told me that ASA prides itself on the work life balance and that's still true to this day. I left ASA for an opportunity elsewhere and found out the grass was not greener. Not only was I welcomed back with open arms, I got a promotion and increased salary. This place is awesome and I see myself here for a long long time.

    Cons

There are some quirky folks here at ASA, but I think that is a contributing factor to our corporate culture. We hire a lot of consultants, which confuses me when we should have these people as part of our staff. Other than that, its hard to say anything too negative about ASA.

    Advice to Management

We need to move faster. And remove the roadblocks for approval processes. If we don't succeed and be first to market someone else is going to steal our thunder.

  8. "Smart, committed, mission-driven people helping student loan borrowers"

    Pros

Management cares about the employees (great benefits, Wii bowling tournaments, Pizza with the President, numerous training and development opportunities, etc.). The benefits are excellent, including a pension retirement plan, generous time off, tuition reimbursement and student loan reimbursement.

    Cons

If you're only motivated by money, it may not be the right place for you. Many who think the "grass is greener" elsewhere seem to come back.
