    Pros

There is a great opportunity to learn many aspects of the tower business, and American Tower has a wealth of resources to help you.

    Cons

    1. Compensation for Sales isn't aligned with company goals, and OTE, is low by many standards.
    2. There is often no sense of urgency internally unless you escalate to the highest levels.
    3. Everyone looks to the TMBD to sell, provide forecasts, develop relationships across the industry, resolve internal process issues, and generally be "where the buck stops," until it comes to compensation and recognition. It's as if the upper management still has no clear understanding of what is required of the role and the level of knowledge it takes to get through the day. As a result, turnover in this position has been very high. I've never worked so hard to make so little.

    Advice to Management

Get some better advice on how to structure compensation plans.

I worked at American Tower as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Related to the field of Telecommunications and reviewing lease contracts with audit extraction.
Improved error rate on acquired leases by interpreting complex languages on land and tenant agreements with Legal team

    Cons

Far Commute and the day to day procedures changed but I was flexible with those changes. However, my team members would complain. I just put together a checklist to assist our tasks.

    Pros

Benefits. Great people is some departments.

    Cons

There has been a high overturn for quite sometime. Unsure of the new management. Micromanagement style. No movement to other departments unless you're friendly with the hiring management.

    Advice to Management

Need to teach all members of the team the same processes. Know what your team should be doing.

I worked at American Tower full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work-life balance in Corporate offices. Above average pay almost everywhere. Great environment for older workers. Battlefield promotions still in existence. Amazing C-suite team, easily explained company values and the revenue-generation model is beyond rich.

    Cons

Top-down environment and highly political. Not everyone follows the values, and HR department is not helpful. Out of touch with what Millennials want from a company - e.g. training, opportunity, career path options. So process-driven (and several types of process planning) that company can't get out of it's own way, and it takes at least a year for any change to occur.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in developing the skills of the people. Time will eventually change the business model and the C-suite team. When this happens enable the employees to step up to the plate.

I have been working at American Tower (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company with excellent benefits and adequate compensation, values, and people. Work is challenging. Schedules are aggressive, but there is a focus on work-life balance.

    Cons

IT is directionless. The "new" CIO has not shared his vision, even after three years. There are reorgs every few months without any explanation. Morale is absolutely in the pits. The rest of the company seems okay though.

    Advice to Management

Replace current CIO with one who has a vision.
