I worked at American Tower full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

For the most part great people

    Cons

Base Salaries typically below industry norm. Executive Management out of touch with teams 2 tiers below. Last manager had the WORST Management style ever! Micromanaged and treated employees like infants. Unable to visualize bigger picture and processes, and unable to visualize down stream impacts of her poor decisions. Said Manager was unproductive and clueless of impact.

For a company who's motto is "Hire good people and Empower them" this manager is absolutely clueless and unproductive. Once heard someone refer to this person and the team as "an abused dog still loves it's owner" Manager's advancement through company was via longevity not performance. Sad.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps do more anonymous surveys to teams via Survey Monkey (not Internal SharePoint sites) allow teams to be heard and use the feedback to actually make a difference.

    Pros

Benefits are great. Stock option is a plus

    Cons

Not worth staying long too much favoritism. Could use a better wage raise program Stock and Bonuses are great but short term

    Advice to Management

Really need to get their stuff together too much chaos no sense of communication among the departments. Department Structural needs much work. Also, Managment needs to take responsibility and invest in the employees do more promoting with in instead of hiring from with out. This really brings down the self of steam of the team. Need to respect people lives and learn to manage work and life balance.

I have been working at American Tower full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The atmosphere is pleasant only due to good teammates.

    Cons

We were mis-informed about the positions we would be working. We are currently in the same dissatisfied boat under leadership of poor management with no sight of rescue, other than quitting. Boca / Cary "life and shift" team management seems to be chosen on the basis of brown-nosing, not on actual work experience or knowledge. Repetitive work, no chance for growth, daily annoyance of the new-to- the -area self-centered, competitive yet poor sport of a manager boasting mundane details about her life in order to gain acceptance from her reportees, although no one truly cares to hear it. Employees were warned early that we "haven't seen the worst of this manager yet" . Complete disregard for you if you are not like the manager. Leave quickly if you have the chance- there are better companies and better managers elsewhere to work for.

    Advice to Management

Have some respect for those with intelligence and experience, instead of protecting those who have no experience or no clue about the work.

I have been working at American Tower full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

After working for years at numerous other companies, I knew I had a good thing when I found ATC. It’s a great company to work for with great people and great benefits. The culture is positive and the people are friendly. I genuinely believe that hard work is recognized at ATC and good performance and strong work ethics are encouraged and rewarded. There is always an opportunity to learn and grow as long as a genuine interest is demonstrated by the employee. ATC starts new employees with an above-average number of vacation days, which increases the longer you are with the company. ATC schedules events, has a business casual dress policy and, in my opinion, has a real interest in trying to make it happy and fulfilling place to work.

The company has monthly trainings on industry-relevant topics, periodic online classes and many seasoned employees who are willing to teach the business. Upward mobility is certainly an option at ATC; however, tenure alone does not equal a promotion and that is why the company is where it is today with qualified management. If you are intelligent, enthusiastic and hardworking, there is a very long runway at ATC. If you are not willing to do the work and try hard – you may have a different experience.

At the end of the day, it is still a job, so.. am I saying that every minute of every day is filled with unicorns and rainbows? No. But, it’s a really great place to be and, in my experiences, I haven’t found anything like it.

    Cons

I do not currently have any to share.
