I worked at American University in Cairo full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Joining a healthy scientific society, challenging teaching and research responsibilities. Caliber students, eager to learn. I worked for the Mechanical Engineering Department with the Materials and Manufacturing groups. Very cooperative and considerable faculty and staff. Good recreational facilities in a nice neighborhood of New Cairo.

    Cons

More space is needed for the faculty offices.

    Advice to Management

Publish more ads internationally about the AUC and careers.

I worked at American University in Cairo (Less than a year)

    Pros

The place didn't work you to death. There was lots of time off and the place paid a very competitive salary. Housing was provided. It was great to work in such an "international" place.

    Cons

My academic department was in disarray a lot of the time. Our department chairperson was always changing. Not all managers were terribly adept or insightful. Students were sometimes very arrogant and demanding.

    Advice to Management

    None. See above.

  11. "Research Assistant in Jameel (non-science) Departments"

    Star Star Star Star Star
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

    - Extremely good conditions and treatment
    - Excellent pay considering it is not a full-time job (around 4,000 EGP per assignment or per one month of work)
    - There is always research going on, which means there are always opportunities to get assignments
    - Due to tight deadlines, assignments that are meant to be completed in one month end up being finished in one week, sometimes less. While that does mean sometimes that can be more pressure during that week, it also means that you get 3 weeks off, paid in full, for a job you finished in one week.
    - Completely mobile and flexible. No fixed working hours. You have your assignments and your deadline. Finish them whenever, whereever you want.

    Cons

    - Sometimes assignments can be overwhelming and on a tight deadline, which means that it can be stressful at times. However, if you finish your assignment early, it means you can relax or take another assignment from another professor during that month and make even more money.
