I worked at American Water full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good salary and benefits. Most people want to do the right thing for the business. Leadership is aware of the poor culture.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic and slow moving. Incompetence reigns throughout many parts of the organization. Poor work/life balance is a result of trying to put out fires for said incompetence. If you like progress this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to eliminate the inertia working against you

    Pros

    Competitive benefits package, fair salaries.

    Cons

Heavy bureaucracy, low morale, poor inter departmental communication.

    Advice to Management

My first week working for this company, I was told "People do not wan tot see you succeed". Work on morale and silos.

I worked at American Water full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Generous contributions to retirement plan.

    Cons

Unfair treatment by management. Those who get caught repeatedly sleeping on the job, get to stay. Put in an extra 9 minutes of overtime to complete your work, and you're out!

    Advice to Management

Next time you call someone in because you have heard a grievance by the employee's immediate manager, take the time to listen, ask, and be fair in your judgement. New hiring managers often pin their mistakes on new employees.

I have been working at American Water full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

there are no pros. It's a dog eat dog environment, with a CEO so greedy, incompetent and vindictive, it makes your skin crawl.

    Cons

    Horrible management at all levels.
    CONSTANT reorgs.
CEO is the current WH's lap dog... siding with the 1% and against the workforce
No direction and planning for long term progress.
Greed and stupidity at all level.
Good people being let go and jobs outsourced to 3rd world countries.

    Advice to Management

You define despicable. From a morally corrupt, incompetent, highly political CEO (orange ogre supporter) to a greedy, immoral 'leadership team' - ALL MUST be FIRED. You are going to make this company famous on the 'American Greed' show

    Pros

There are none that can be mentioned. Toxic. People cry every week in front of others due to the environment. Who wants to be part of a toxic environment

    Cons

Senior execs couldn't fix the culture so instead of doing the work to fix it they're just replacing everyone and starting over. Pathetic. Lost knowledge. No wonder there were compliance issues this year and employees won't get bonuses they earned while stock rises. Just pathetic

    Advice to Management

    Please be fired

    Pros

Clients and employees are always a high priority. Great mindset around EHS topics and expectations. Good compensation and great benefits.

    Cons

It can have high levels of bureaucracy that make certain tasks take longer than ideal. No clear cost of living adjustment practice can make it difficult for certain roles/geographies.

    Advice to Management

Continue to drive improvement on streamlining and optimizing internal processes and protocols.
