I have been working at Americo Life full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Supportive, environment with wonderful training programs that provide the ability to move up and move into other areas of the company.

    Hard working, intelligent workforce.

The locations provides associates with the ability to enjoy all the good things that downtown KC has to offer. The incredible architecture of the historic buildings along with beautiful landscaping and furnishings set the offices apart from other companies.

Many perks that are no longer enjoyed by the average company, such as great parties along with charitable, outreach programs that make a difference in our city and bring the entire associate base together.

Great compensation with everyone participating in the bonus program.

Associates are treated well, which results in low turnover for the organization.

    Cons

None. Great job, team and company.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I worked at Americo Life full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, small company culture, bonuses (if it's not used to hit your 'market' compensation). Work life balance is great, but gets abused by some.

    Cons

Entrenched employees that get no discipline, us vs them mentality between departments, bi-annual bonuses (if they make it part of your 'market' compensation). Very re-active, lots of technical debt and lacking many new technologies.

I have been working at Americo Life full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

37.5 hour work week, 1 hour lunches, amazing holiday party for Christmas, great pay

    Cons

Health insurance is way too expensive with very high deductibles, management sometimes talks to you like your an ignorant incapable 2 year old, management tends to try to micromanage you, really hard to transfer to a different department

    Advice to Management

Don't try to micromanage your employees, don't talk to employees like they are children, and do away with the whole 'Americo Values' requirement for the performance bonuses.

I have been working at Americo Life (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people, a very family like feel in many departments. Small enough that there aren't very many degrees of separation between you and the person who can help you accomplish the task at hand. Many jobs are shorter than the traditional 40 hours.

    Cons

It sometimes feels like some departments work in silos. Projects are started and not completed before they are launched. No accountability approach, some other department will fix in down the road. If you are one of the "chosen" your career will progress; if you aren't then there aren't as many opportunities. Gaps in communication

    Advice to Management

Encourage more big picture thinking. Who will this affect? How will it work down the road. Encourage different levels of management and departments who develop systems for the business to actually shadow/apprentice in those departments.

    Cons

The gifts and bonuses are nice, less costs for employee benefits.

    Advice to Management

Think bigger, pay more, provide more opportunities for advancement.
