Worjing with other departments can be difficult.

I worked at Amerigroup full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work from home. Fair compensation for Social Services work. The ability to work with an at risk population who needs services for survival and ability to thrive.

    Cons

See below. The morale among upper management is very poor. It is "never enough". I did not feel as an investment within the company despite my multiple years of dedicated service. There was never a word or comment to counteract my decision to leave.

    Advice to Management

Stop taking away autonomy. There is no longer a culture of using professional judgement. Very punitive measures of corrective action. Caseloads were impossible to manage within given timeframes and staff was expected to pick cup slack from teammates in regions that were 2-3 hours away. It was nearly impossible to effectively manage services to such members due to geographical restrictions. It was a job that was unattainable. The job was far better under a different management administration, however that drastically changed in 2016.

I worked at Amerigroup full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work from home. Working with dedicated, educated, professional team members.

    Cons

New upper management has turned the company upside down. Huge turnover of field staff. Many with several years dedicated to the company.

    Advice to Management

Realize you cannot learn how to do this job by reading a manual. Be respectful and professional to employees. Stop bullying staff. Utilize the management that has been with this program for years...they know what they are doing.

I worked at Amerigroup full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Parent company Anthem has great values, decent benefits, even though they are not available until first month after 30 days

    Cons

Amerigroup Iowa is chaotic and has poor mid-level and upper management. High turnover in my department.

    Advice to Management

Directors not held to any accountability. Implement 360 reviews. Implement policies consistently. Too much favoritism.

    Pros

Supportive management and coworkers. Very understanding with situations in your personal life, and flexible with work schedule.

    Cons

Disorganization with policies and procedures. Same question different answer depending upon whom you ask.

    Advice to Management

It would be nice to have a policy and procedure booklet to review. This would give everyone the same answer, and same area of reference.

    I worked at Amerigroup full-time

    Pros

Overall compensation plan was better than average. Company is at the forefront of work-at-home for many positions. Committed and caring front-line managers

    Cons

A political cauldron. The minions in the Virginia Beach headquarters control everything. A great deal of secrecy even within the same team. Leaders undermine directors by encouraging and manipulating "back-channel" comments in "skip-level" meetings. Accomplished liars. The ballyhooed integration of WellPoint into Amerigroup is crashing and burning because senior leaders have no ability to control the Incompetent WellPoint site leaders. Reduction in force and reorganization resulted in promotion of cronies.

    Advice to Management

If you can manage to pull off the Cigna merger, take your golden parachutes and let them run the business because you have clearly failed. Just another example of the excess profits in healthcare masking a multitude of incompetence.
