I worked at Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    decent pay and good benefits

    Cons

they didn't teach everything in training and if you don't get licensed in all the required states they will kick you to the curb real fast without offering a different position regardless of performance.

I worked at Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There are more pros than cons working for Ameriprise. If I did not have such a bad leader I would probably give the company a 4 to 5 star rating. The health benefits are good, the personal time off given is good, the training is good to great, the 401k match is good, pension is good and many of the people working with the company are good to great.

    Cons

Depending on who your leader is can really make or break a person's experience working with the company. Some leaders really like to give people on their team opportunities for growth and help them advance their career with the company. I was not so lucky and felt completely trapped working with the company and even worse when you are in this situation Human Resources acts more as a damage control and does little to... help.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees better. If a person has concerns about the job itself that is one thing. But if many employees are having a negative experience with the same leader do more to address these concerns because in the end ignoring these concerns will only have the long term effect of damaging the company's overall reputation.

I have been working at Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great corporate culture, awesome staff. Good benefits from day 1. Sunday's are always off.

    Cons

Agents are under constant pressure to meet high sales goals, with increasingly poor quality leads. If a minimum sales threshold is not met, commission is not earned, only base pay of about 34k. Underwriting guidelines are so strict, it's difficult for clients to qualify, and rates are frequently not competitive with companies like Geico. Every minute of every day is quantified in metrics, and if you don't score well..., you will end up with a less desirable schedule.

    Advice to Management

Put yourself in your employees' shoes. You may not be able to loosen underwriting guidelines, but you could reduce the commission threshold to a more attainable level. Its very disheartening to work hard, and have no commission to show for it. It leads talented employees to look elsewhere.

I worked at Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good benefits day one. Guaranteed 40+ hours. Your own desk and cubicle with a decent view. Great People for the most part to work with.

    Cons

Ridiculous metrics required to hope for a schedule that works for you. Before I left, company was having major financial problems and clearly looking to lay people off causing major unrest among associates. Company has many loopholes in commission structure that make it easy for them to either lower or completely remove commission for the month.

    Advice to Management

Remember that you hired people, with lives and families. Not robots.

I have been working at Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Benefits are good, growing company, good product to sell, good communication and consistent managers who are helpful

    Cons

In sales work on the phone all day every day, no room for advancement, bad work/life balance including working weekends, heavy micromanagement, hard to get any time off in the summer

    Advice to Management

Give sales agents more opportunities to provide and develop the company, no one likes working on the phones all day every day and many agents want to take on additional responsibilities

I worked at Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance full-time

    Pros

Many good people to work with, good benefits, not a sweat shop

    Cons

Need to leave the Bell Curve behind; never could figure out how many of the Chosen Ones got to be "chosen."

    Advice to Management

None, they think they're doing a pretty good job; who am I to try to change their minds?

I have been working at Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The health benefits are good. The base salary is ok and the incentive (commissions) are fair. No cap on commissions which means if you are a closer than you make a great living. The office is a friendly environment without a ton of drama. There is some of the usual "office politics" but nothing out of the ordinary for a call center.

    Cons

Outdated technology and Micro-managers on the sales floor.

    Advice to Management

    Improve the cons.
