I have been working at Ameriprise full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Matrix organization structure and each role is very entrepreneurial. You are given tools and resources to leverage to the best of your abilities.

    Cons

If you’re new or young in the financial industry it’s a very steep learning curve.

I worked at Ameriprise full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They help you get licensed, and are great and drilling in open ended questions as the only thing that is important. Understanding products, compliance, etc, are points that really ignored.

    Cons

Second rate managers running around, badgering and embarrassing people because they can. No emphasis on really helping clients, its about selling financial plans and generating GDC, nothing else matters.

    Advice to Management

Quit acting like this should be a big money producing operation. The AAC is working with cast off clients that don't have much money, or really don't want to change anything, but just need occasional help on things. The approach you are taking makes people leave, and ultimately the clients pay the price.

I have been working at Ameriprise full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Building out working area is rewarding, but gaining the support required and staffing to the level of work needed is difficult.

    Cons

Title does not reflect work that I do. Area working in is difficult and fraught with internal politics. Hard to make progress.

    Advice to Management

Clear up political agendas and do what is best for the company.

    Pros

There are a ton of opportunities for growth if you are willing to grind out the work. There are some good benefits and great people to work with.

    Cons

A lot of good work goes unacknowledged. People will pat you on your back for something and turn around and give someone else an award for it.

    Advice to Management

Recognize good employees and give better raises

      Pros

Positive work culture -- good teamwork Great customer focus

      Cons

Long, long hours (including weekends and holidays) Inadequate support for work/life balance

      Advice to Management

Verify resource availability (with appropriate skills) prior to communicating end dates for major initiatives and projects. Unrealistic deadlines have caused us to lose many strong performers to competitors where obtaining work/life balance was possible
