Not the best or worst company to work for

    Pros

The company believes in yearly raises based on performance. They have a matched 401(k) up to 5% and other normal benefits. There is some room for upwards mobility.

    Cons

Their raises are paltry and are not up for negotiation. They believe you should just be happy with what is offered. They want the absolute most from you, despite there not being an incentive for it. They will sabotage upwards mobility if they think it will harm their current team, yet claim they have your back in times of promotions. They hire for x, y and z, but will not pay you for the ridiculous amount of extra work piled on after the first few weeks.

    Pros

Great work environment. Small group of people that work together. Depending on your employer a lot of flexibility, which I have with mine (hours, taking time off etc)

    Cons

Since it is a Franchise I work for benefits are not as good as on a corporate level.

    Poor Management

    Pros

I was able to learn about the financial services industry without having had the experience in the past. I enjoyed the opportunity to support financial advisors in complying with state and federal laws and regulations. Ameriprise was doing a very good job of following these laws and regulations. I felt good to be working with an institution that played by the rules in the financial sector. My salary increased by at least 3% each year and each year I earned a bonus. Benefits such as health insurance and the amount of personal day accrual were better than average.

    Cons

Employees only receive 4 sick days a year and each separate absense was counted as an occurance. Being over 12 minutes to 50 minutes late would result in a 1/2 occurance and over 50 minutes as a full occurance regardless of the reason. Five occurances would result in a verbal warning and 6 would result in a written warning. More than 6 would result I'm termination. This policy was for most of the employees but there were favorite employees in the same position I was in that got treated differently. The way that the policy was implemented across the organization depended on which team leader you had. My team leader used the policy to intimidate those people she did not like. Upper management was given information from various employees but did nothing or told the team leader who was responsible leading to retaliation. The management was weak and certain employees were able to dominate who didn't necessarily have the best imtereats of the company in mind. These employees were allowed to intimidate the weaker employees and there were many cliques and in my experience one bully who was not a supervisor. I loved my job but the environment was too toxic.

    Pros

Their stock has gone up. Good education benefits are available if you pass the class and if it qualifies as part of your job.

    Cons

Limited access to outside products... outside mutual funds must pay to be "preferred partner" and have access to the sales force.
