    Pros

Great company to work for. Excellent benefits, compensation plans and strategic vision. Senior leadership team is very smart and tends to never make a bad move

    Cons

Ameriprise is a very conservative east coast mentality type company so there is little to no flexibilty

    Ameriprise Advisor Center Minneapolis MN

    Pros

They pay for your licenses. The trainers do their best to prepare you for trying to work with clients. A stepping stone to a better firm.

    Cons

Too many to list. Long hours, diminished client base. Toxic management and expectation from them to churn client accounts. Most advisors don't make it past 2 years. The system almost seems designed to get people termed after 18-24 months. The job has continually gotten worse in the two years I have been there. The senior leadership does not seem to understand what is happening in a rather large department of their company.

Ameriprise is a great company to work for, with excellent support, and high level of income potential.

    Pros

High income potential, flexibility when you produce, team environment, independence with constructive direction, and the ability to set your own pace are great attributes for someone interested in delivering financial advice through the great company known as Ameriprise. Leadership provides direction and is great at teaching a novice how to produce in a competitive environment.

    Cons

Lots of hours to get started, rigid schedule in the beginning, lots of rejection. Leadership is difficult at times, and not always on point with their direction. There are a lot of requirements that seem inefficient. They are learning how to manage however, in an everchanging environment. The downsides are probably no different than most challenging careers.

    Pros

Good benefits, great stated mission, lots of great employees

    Cons

staff are not valued and have no control over who they work with. Leadership does not encourage great staff and rather works against them to protect their own jobs.

Ameriprise offers interesting work projects and challenges to employees who are self-sufficient

    Pros

Busy environment, plenty to do and challenging. Lots of projects small and big. Business leaders are doing their best to support the customers and sales force. Management is conservative and has helped company weather the financial crisis. Company has better and more refined focus after separating from American Express and was a good change.

    Cons

Some senior management is arrogant and negative creating morale challenges. Financial crisis has placed tight constraints on expenses and increased workload. Most top leadership is based in NY while home office workforce is based in Minneapolis so often a disconnect culturally and within local activities. Business model may need to evolve to keep clients and advisors happy as a result of recession. As a client, I haven't seen this applied.
