I worked at Ameristar Casinos (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Loved working with the team members. Some act like children and forget it's a casino....open 24/7/365. the closer you get to the top the closer you are to the door.

    Cons

Leaders-everyone refuses to share. One common goal to make the place a better place to work, work together not against everyone. They preach development but, refuse to work with you so you can know how to improve.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating everyone like their disposable....we are human beings.

I worked at Ameristar Casinos full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lovely people with hourly employees whom you spend most of your shift with .
    Okay pay
    8 hour shifts

    Cons

    Horrible PTO benefits
    Management pretends to care
    Too many changes
    Favoritism

    Advice to Management

You should really consider those who try a lot , who would put all their effort into the job. Those are the kind of people you want to keep, not the ones who try to break the rules , complain on a daily basis, and whine when they don't get their way.

I have been working at Ameristar Casinos full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

My coworkers, yearly Fun Plex company outing, talent show, you also get a turkey for thanksgiving and a ham for Christmas

    Cons

Pinnacle made the casino a very unpleasant place to work, they changed the benefits so now they aren't as great as they used to be, the smoke is outrageous, the guests yell at you if they are losing and beings that they are always short staffed they also yell at you for not being around enough, the job is hard on your body

    Advice to Management

Never on the same page, communication sucks, when the waitresses need help due to being understaffed the management sits in the office and doesn't bother asking if we need anything, favoritism, they don't cut when they should which makes it hard for us to make money

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Ameristar Casinos full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Not to many Pros you get PTO that go's up over the years and they do have a few events for the employee's every year. They do give you a bonus at Dec time its only 100.00 and to buy lunch is 3.00 and you do get a lot of food for that

    Cons

you are really on your own and most of the ppl are Ethiopia that dose not clean right if there lives depend on it and the pay is so low 9.27 an hour that they cant get great works to hire for the low pay. the raise 's in any department is only 23 to 30 cents a year and the cap is 14.00 an hour in EVS so no one will never see that

    Advice to Management

needs to start firing the week worker's and give what max raise 's they can to the ones that work hard for it. CEO and other big boss do not care if you are making a livable wage they will work you to the bone and ones you are done they will get some one to replace you in a week or two

I have been working at Ameristar Casinos full-time

    Pros

The Security Department is considered the "foot in the door" to transfer to other better paying casino positions.

    Cons

Although the job title is "Security Officer", you are nothing more than a person who stands at post checking IDs or walking around constantly for eight hours checking IDs (again) and wristbands. Painfully boring with no real advancement opportunities unless you transfer departments. $13/hour with gaming badge, $12/hr without. No raise for a minimum of one year. No one lasts that long. No additional pay for working holidays, but it is mandatory that we work ALL holidays.

    Advice to Management

What is taught in orientation is all flowers and butterflies; "Management are your stewards." In reality, management views you as a temporary employee who will quit after 4-6 months, even though turnover is about 120% per year, Ameristar does not invest in employee retention.

I worked at Ameristar Casinos full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hours are steady, had no real fears of losing position. Had coworkers I enjoyed being around. Manager was tolerable outside the work environment.

    Cons

Low pay, low incentive for advancement(double work with minuscule raise), Feedback ignored, inconsistent policy on taking leave. Communication between departments was nil.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what your workers are telling you. There are a lot of incompetent individuals due to poor location, but you should have higher standards even so.
