    Pros

    Cutting edge biotechnology, great mission

    Cons

Management is closed and very secretive and quite often not trustworthy

    Advice to Management

Open and transparency will make Amgen the best place to work. It hurts moral with closed minded management.

    Pros

Nice place to work with friendly people and interesting scientific projects. Outstanding 401K and generous vacation policy.

    Cons

Advancement is nonexistent outside of a few select department managers. Massive layoffs followed by massive waves of hiring.

    Advice to Management

We see you're trying to keep the workforce cheap by the Silicon Valley model turning over the workforce. You're not investing in your people.

    Pros

The best benefits I ever had and extremely fair pay. Always rewarded those that worked hard

    Cons

Company is changing and grows then retracts too much. Common theme among most biotech companies now

    Pros

They have Excellent benefits and Well-intentioned people. Do some aspects of the business very well. Great day care for children.

    Cons

Like to think they are still a nimble, innovative biotech, but have ballooned into conservative, no-risk-taking, bureaucratic organization. Very political and antiquated in their culture.

    Advice to Management

Hire outside people who challenge your status quo and offer fresh thinking.

I have been working at Amgen full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I've been with Amgen for nearly a decade; after spending a decade with various large pharma companies on the east coast. Amgen is hands down the best place to work in the industry. Lots of advancement opportunities internally and they truly care about their staff. Beautiful campus, competitive pay and benefits, top-notch childcare facility. Couldn't be happier with my decision to join.

    Cons

Amgen is a tough, competitive company. If you're not willing to work hard or go the extra mile -- this isn't the company for you.
