I worked at Amgen full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Location, campus, on site health club, comp package, annual paid shutdowns, quality of employees, impact of products for grievous illnesses; good strategic planning by management, promise of pipeline

    Cons

High cost of living at headquarters, decision-making concentrated at top (VP+ level) not well delegated, limited opportunity for advancement, increasing sense that Corporate Leadership does not truly value employees, declining employee benefits due to cost savings focus, move to open office environment is distracting; outsourced services do not compare well to insource model regarding quality

    Advice to Management

Delegate decision-making;; allow budget management at lower levels, improve employee development program e.g. offer leadership development training more broadly, demonstrate consistent value for employees -try to move back to an entrepreneurial culture rather than big pharma culture

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Amgen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Focus on mission to serve patients and ethics is admirable. Opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds in the industry is exciting and motivating. Since Bob Bradway took over, there have been A LOT of changes, and I think for the better. Had he not implemented some important initiatives, I seriously doubt the company would have survived in its current form.

    Cons

Bureaucratic, outsourced finance systems make getting anything done that has to do with payments or using external vendors nearly impossible. Things that should take a few minutes take hours due to complicated, user-unfriendly systems.

    Advice to Management

Fix decision making! You know it's an issue, and yet you let the program stall (more than once).

I have been working at Amgen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Most staff members are hard working and competent. The benefits eapecially paid time off, 401k match and bonuses are very good.

    Cons

They let go of good people by not valuing them enough or by offering early retirement Next Gen office of the future initiative is making a lot of people very unhappy. Some supervisors that get hired are not qualified to manage people.
