Pros
Hired some really great, smart, proactive coworkers with a passion for the product. Amplify provided a very flexible work from home policy which was great for work/life balance. The office was large, bright, and located in a very desirable area.
Cons
Pay was on the lower end of comparable positions elsewhere. Senior management promoted fiefdoms and cronyism resulted in isolated development teams and a lot of back-channel misinformation and backstabbing. Friends of senior management promoted to positions of authority, driving great employees out of the company. Decision makers routinely ignored teams until late into the product cycle, turning tasks that would have been easily solved early into emergency, all-hands-on-deck nightmares.

Brooklyn tech company with a mission to improve education
Jun 13, 2014 - Engineering Manager in Brooklyn, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
* Great people : solid developers, drive to improve quality of work, smart and fun to work with * Location : I live in Brooklyn so Dumbo is an easy bike commute. Actually a large % of people bikes/walks/jogs to work. * Making a difference in education, however small. Very different feeling than working for a financial company for example. There is a lot of focus on education on day to day too, everyone has opportunity to learn through series of brown bags about current trends and struggles in education, common core, etc.. * Lots of different technologies we get to play with on daily basis, not just across teams but within various teams too * movement towards vertical self sufficient teams * great work life balance. Flexible hours, ability to WFH when necessary. Much lower stress level than in a lot of other companies. say in managing your own workload
Cons
* the company is different now from where Wireless Generation was years ago in some good and bad ways. Feels like there is more focus on profitability and less on mission. Yet our product set and horizons are expanding rapidly due to access to additional funding * There is a lot of inertia within the company and resistance to change, hence improvements are slow and incremental

Welcome to the middle ages
Jul 21, 2015 - Anonymous Employee in Brooklyn, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Work life balance is definitely on the life side. You can get away with not doing anything and nobody will notice. The porch is a great place to hang out if you get bored of not doing work at your desk.
Cons
Office is run like a feudal society. Each team basically decides what to do and management has virtually no control. Getting anything accomplished there takes ages. Company has half-committed to way too many projects to handle and does not have the resources to do so. Everyone is demoralized and talk around the office constantly comes back to how awful it is to work there.
