I worked at Anadarko Petroleum as a contractor (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great project engineers and project teams that appreciate and recognize your contributions to the team. Your opinion and input will be heard and given consideration despite the individuals mentioned in the "Cons" below.

    Cons

You work in a matrix organization where you also report to project controls management and your assignments are determined by this side of the matrix. Know-little, do-little individuals are often rewarded advancement, given the best opportunities, and praised for analytical production or processes that you were instrumental in designing, building and implementing. Applies to some in PC mgmt. not all.

I worked at Anadarko Petroleum full-time

    Pros

Great compensation and benefits, great location if you live in N. Houston

    Cons

Short sighted, very inexperienced management, arrogant

    Advice to Management

Get to know your people, stop treating every day as a performance review, gain their trust - then they'll run thru brick walls for you - most employees do not trust management.

I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

PTO is good, 9/80 schedule, reasonable pay, 401k matching, great facilities (office, gym, cafeteria), friendly culture, no micromanaging, Metro van subsidy, sometimes interesting work.

    Cons

Lots of managers, limited ability to advance. Broken review process, some silos. No raises or promotions last year, stock based bonus eliminated. There were layoffs earlier this year. The company should implement paternity leave as a benefit if it truly cares about family and community.

    Advice to Management

Executives are overpaid. Give raises and promotions before everyone leaves. Evaluations and goals should be revamped to be fair and transparent as should compensation. Don't just consider how long people have been around or the number of hours worked. Consider the value people add. Company should be posting jobs instead of just moving favorites. Add paternity leave. Add flexible work schedules. Open communication means that information should be shared and done so frequently. Share lessons learned in failures not just successes. Reward experimentation. Improve HR to be a competitive advantage instead of embarrassment.

I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benifits, vacation and retirement package. Friendly team environment for the most part with a good ballance between work and familly.

    Cons

Have gone down hill in the last few years remembering that the personel in the field is what keeps things going. Upper management has developed a do as I say not as I do culture when it comes to values.
