I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are so many smart people that I work with on a daily basis, and this makes it fun to go to work. Also, the company has many employee perks and pays well.

    Cons

The overall oil and gas industry has been hit hard over the last few years, so that has made it challenging. Also, there are so many great employees that it can be hard to move into management.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the culture stays intact as this is the most important thing for long-term success and employee retention.

I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place for employees to make a difference right now - in any discipline. The focus on continuous improvement, innovation, and margin has never been higher. Performance is now more important than relationships, and Anadarko has shown that supervisors, managers, and even vice presidents will be held to task.

    Cons

Through the downturn, morale eroded to be "in line" with other E&Ps and company stock has underperformed peers. Attrition has been high in 2017, at least in Denver, as salaries have become less competitive among Denver peer companies.

    Advice to Management

Salaries should be tailored to specific markets. Factor in that Denver is more expensive than Houston in 2018 compensation and raises.

I worked at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits, the teams, opportunities to volunteer, PTO. Opportunities to learn about the oil and gas industry. Free lunches sometimes as well.

    Cons

It is hard to move up. Some of the older generation didn't like change and were not happy when changes were made in the company.

    Advice to Management

Look at your people that work the hardest. Those are the people that you should promote.

I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Conveniences such as dry cleaning/mail room/health clinic/masseuse available in the building. Trainings are plentiful and development is encouraged. Different parts of the business are under one parent company such as midstream and marketing functions along with E & P. Culture and pros vary from department to department. Revenue department is flexible and willing to understand and work with individual circumstances.

    Cons

Preferential treatment may occur. Expectations are not clearly communicated.

I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

CEO and Executive committee seem to have company's and employee's best interest at heart. Which when managed correctly are one in the same.

    Cons

Middle and Lower mangement play to many games and have to many political power struggles they do not have the company or employees best interest at heart. They are out for themselves and it is blatantly obvious and disheartening.

    Advice to Management

Clean house in the middle management area and Anadarko's dwindling reputation will recover.

I worked at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Freedom to innovate and explore; kind coworkers; flexible schedule; great benefits; plenty of vacation.

    Cons

Leadership is stuck in survival mode from the downturn. Although the freedom exists to experiment, new ideas are not welcomed on a whole. Decisions are required to be made at high levels, creating a disconnect to our actual needs. Arrogance exists at all levels and we do not like to admit we are wrong and move forward. The most accurate description of our vision in the current environment is "preservation" and creating an illusion of chasing after executive goals.

For an individual contributor, pay is competitive but do not expect to advance as a function of your performance. Employees are rank-and-file with favoritism, and those who are competent without challenging convention. I am worried for this company's future. I care for the people there.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your users, they know more than anyone. Realize the disconnect that has formed at higher levels. Admit ignorance when appropriate and remove damaging pride. Celebrate those who dedicate themselves to a greater vision for growing our organizations. Differentiate those who are deserving.
