I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work life balance is quite amazing. The environment allows you to become your best and work in peace. I would definitely recommend working here.

    Cons

There are not too many cons that come to mind. The company is pretty well rounded overall. The environment is amazing and the pay is competitive.

    Advice to Management

The company overall is amazing. The most difficult part is advancement because people don't tend to retire much here! I for sure understand why.

I worked at Anadarko Petroleum as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great, intelligent people to work with especially with the oil & gas is booming.

    Cons

When the oil and gas prices are low, it affects the morale within the whole office. Contractors are always the first to go. If you get hired on as an indefinite contractor, whether in the office or in the field, your chances of getting hired on as an employee is very low. But that's the nature of the game when you work in the oil & gas business.

I worked at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits are good, salaries are competitive for the industry, most people have private office and work hours are flexible.

    Cons

The down turn in oil and gas prices has been challenging for management to deal with.

    Advice to Management

The company needs to return to the values adopted during the Jim Hackett tenure. They have gotten off course and need to reexamine their recent behavior.

I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of vacation days. Killer benefits. Work with a great bunch of guys. They encourage you to take classes and broaden your knowledge of your profession.

    Cons

Management likes to micro manage and it is only getting worse. It's hurting the company and productivity in the field. They need to cool it or will start to loose employees once other companies start to hire again.

    Advice to Management

You should focus more on making it a better place to work and retaining your employees.

I worked at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great work life balance. PTO allows for plenty of time to do things outside of work. Family feel at the office. Good benefits.

    Cons

Too many layers of management at times, things can be a bit of a black box, decisions are made high up without input from the people working the fields at times.

I worked at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Corporate values were of the highest ethical and moral vein, and employees were well compensated. Reporting structure was clear, with opportunities for training.

    Cons

The company was top heavy with too much focus on the corporate office and too little concern for field and line staff.

    Advice to Management

Provide clear paths for employee advancement; foster more communication between all staff supporting an asset stream instead of the silo approach.

I worked at Anadarko Petroleum (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Work/life balance, Pay and Benefits

    Cons

Very limited opportunities for career advancement. Very heavily staffed on the management side and no one is really sure what they do.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so wrapped up in your paycheck and focus more on your employees.

I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum full-time

    Pros

Benefits are great. PTO second to none.

    Cons

Cyclical industry, a little risky if you're looking for the most stable of jobs.

    Advice to Management

One thing I feel very strongly needs work is pay for performance. I know plenty of more capable younger people in the department I work in that do three times as much as some of the more "experienced" workers, but get paid a 1/3 as much. Without this understanding, you may struggle to retain those younger, talented folks.
