I have been working at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

9/80 work schedule offers amazing flexibility in scheduling. Great work-life balance. The benefits are phenomenal and the people are also great. Overall the culture suffered a bit when the prices of oil fell and layoffs happened, but it is recovering and management is doing an awesome job at pulling everyone together by focusing on core values. Parking/RTD passes are paid for. Gym subsidies. Competitive salaries... the list goes on and the benefits seem endless. Overall a fantastic company to work for!!!

    Cons

The turnover that the low oil prices has created has put a bit of strain on the people who still remain workload-wise. Nothing unmanageable.

    Pros

Great people, outstanding benefits. I loved working there.

    Cons

Not enough employee recognition for hard work. It seems sometimes it is not your work that gets you a promotion but who you know.

    Advice to Management

    Too many managers.

I worked at Anadarko Petroleum full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - The company is a relatively small "community" with lots of great people to work with.

    - The opportunities to collaborate with people in multiple disciplines within the company provide exposure to learning about many of the business functions that occur in an oil & gas E&P company.

    - In my experience, management was always willing to listen to ideas or concerns.

    Cons

    - Maintaining the small / lean workforce can lead to periods of stress when there are multiple priorities competing for your time.

    - The oil & gas business is cyclical...that should not be a surprise. If you stay in it long enough, your job will be impacted in some way by that fact.

    Advice to Management

Continue to foster, encourage and demonstrate the corporate culture and values that have served your employees and stockholders very well since 1986.

    Cons

They are losing the "small company" culture as they get bigger.

    Advice to Management

As to all management, try to minimize the bureaucracy and let people work.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Great employee benefits. Had core values that they lived. Enjoyable place to work. Valued time away from work as a way to reenergize.

    Cons

This company is being driven by the younger generation and the recent downsize in March was a way to purge a lot of senior employees.
