    Pros

Work/life balance, semiconductor chip industry leader.

    Cons

Lack of hardware systems engineering talents, too many incompetent managements, pay is not good since the semiconductor chip industry is on downhill now.

I have been working at Analog Devices full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable company recently celebrating a 50th anniversary. Significant revenue stream from legacy parts. Large cash reserves. Few day to day existential crises.

    Cons

    - Stable company with little vision breeds laziness, internal politics.
    - Middle management is over-sized and not aligned. Decisions aren't made.

    - Company composed of many small teams with limited collaboration between them.
    - Little reward for the developers and few hardworking engineers that produce the successful products. No incentive to succeed.
    - Technical talent largely limited to converters and a few isolated businesses.

    - Upper management exhibits lack of technical understanding and judgement, ultimately leading to bad decisions, acquisitions and investments.
    - Executive vision is cliche, lacking depth and examples. CEO and CTO are both marketing focused.

    Advice to Management

Fire people who haven't delivered major results within 3 years. Start by cutting out layers of management. Profit share with rising employee stars.

    Pros

Decent benefits and okay work live balance when things are going well.

    Cons

Incompetent upper management. Management likes to apply pressure for no reason other than showing their might.

    Advice to Management

Let the engineers develop some marketable products

I worked at Analog Devices full-time

    Pros

Some useful experience. Getting experience after graduating from college.

    Cons

    Worse job I ever had.

Other than getting experience after graduating from college, I see no future here. Supervisors, managers, and coworkers are belligerent (fueled by egotism), moody, and disrespectful. Some of the supervisors work half days, others offer no mentoring and encouragement. A few years ago, one of my coworkers quit within months of being hired for these reasons. He/she was extremely frustrated and couldn’t stomach the culture. Higher labor grades mock and denigrate employees below them for entertainment - having fun at someone else’s expense.

Employees showing strong aptitudes in skill set A are forced to do tasks B, C, and D without the training needed to succeed. Hard-working employees are overworked and setup for failure.

Supervisors are more concerned with practicing their golf swing in the hallway (virtual golf club in hand) while chewing gum with an open mouth or leaving early to go to a game, golf-course, etc. rather than taking the time to initiate and/or discuss the development and advancement of their reports.

Layoffs every November (sometimes October too now).

Employee surveys voiced many concerns time after time, but nothing changes. As a result of the disconnect between employees and supervisors/managers morale is low.

    Advice to Management

Employee surveys voiced many concerns time after time, but nothing changes. What are the surveys for? Does upper management view the results?

I worked at Analog Devices full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Interesting work (for some), good benefits, work with very skilled engineers

    Cons

Poor direction and leadership from upper management, culture becoming more toxic and polarized, long design cycles with large teams = slow career growth and development, low pay compared to other companies in the industry, frequent re-orgs, layoffs, work/life balance

    Advice to Management

You need to improve the career development situation. The assembly-line method where people have the same role over and over wastes people's potential. Also, need to fix the territorial culture that leads to extreme waste of resources and a terrible work environment. Most are not happy, some regretting coming to ADI, people will leave. It is a real shame that ADI is devolving from where it was to where it is going.

I have been working at Analog Devices full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

ADI is a very laid-back company and it treats bad people very good.

    Cons

30% of the people supporting the other 70% of people in the company.

    Advice to Management

    Treat the good people good.

I worked at Analog Devices full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

When business is good, the bonuses are awesome.

    Cons

When business weakens, bonuses are almost nil, and furloughs become common. Vacation time can be used for furlough, but when that runs out so does your salary.

    Advice to Management

Middle management is stretched so thin that their personnel are not given job criteria/expectations until one is criticized for not knowing.

    Pros

Great technical environment, technology savvy staff, highly professional and inteligent engineers. The best engineers in the semiconductor industry you can work with. work life balance is good, not many overtime, annual GTC meeting is good for technical growth and exposure.

    Cons

Management team is the worst I have ever seen, Little feedback, lack of promotion transparency. Old fashioned business style and hirearchy. Gen X and Y may have trouble to fit in a depressed environment.
Overal, you will be thrilled by your job and co-worker and will feel depressed by the management.

    Advice to Management

top mgr don't value business training which is exactly they need such MBA or organizational behaviour courses. A good engineer does not automaticly qualify for a manager position.

    Cons

No path to growth within the company, salaries low comparing to others.
