I have been working at Analog Devices full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

ADI historically has been and continues to be a company for engineers. The hiring process is rigorous, but if you make the cut, you can be assured of working with some of the best IC development engineers in the world. ADI has legends in the industry still working there and most engineers are extremely generous with their time. People will take the time to work with you and teach you what they know.

    Cons

The downsides tend to be lower compensation compared to the industry and lack of career opportunities and planning. This is an area that ADI continues to try and improve but with little success. Hopefully they will keep working and improving the system.

    Advice to Management

During the ADI/LTC merger, don't forget the core businesses that built both companies. In an effort to save costs, don't be too eager to swing the axe.

    Pros

Work life balance is good. There is little corporate politics. Technical collaborative vibe. Working with smart people. Absolutely great low and mid - management

    Cons

Pay ison the low side. HR is horrendous. Lots of older people. Few young people. Upper management is not that well.

I worked at Analog Devices full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The most exciting thing that I was able to do at Analog was a comparison of different semiconductor technologies for power amplifier applications. My manager gave me all the time I needed to properly train myself in all variants of software and hardware necessary to do the job.

    Cons

Sometimes it was hard for me to understand product roadmaps (likely my own fault :))

    Advice to Management

I would just continue to allow engineers to do all the necessary research to understand as much as possible about their particular fields of expertise.

    Cons

Lack of hardware systems engineering talents, too many incompetent managements, pay is not good since the semiconductor chip industry is on downhill now.

I have been working at Analog Devices full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable company recently celebrating a 50th anniversary. Significant revenue stream from legacy parts. Large cash reserves. Few day to day existential crises.

    Cons

    - Stable company with little vision breeds laziness, internal politics.
    - Middle management is over-sized and not aligned. Decisions aren't made.

    - Company composed of many small teams with limited collaboration between them.
    - Little reward for the developers and few hardworking engineers that produce the successful products. No incentive to succeed.
    - Technical talent largely limited to converters and a few isolated businesses.

    - Upper management exhibits lack of technical understanding and judgement, ultimately leading to bad decisions, acquisitions and investments.
    - Executive vision is cliche, lacking depth and examples. CEO and CTO are both marketing focused.

    Advice to Management

Fire people who haven't delivered major results within 3 years. Start by cutting out layers of management. Profit share with rising employee stars.
