I worked at Anchin Block & Anchin part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good work environment. Most employees are respectful of one another, including part-timers.

    Cons

Hiring is not always based on talent.

    Advice to Management

Management highly respected. Don't let good employees slip away because of a few supervisors who are not on the lookout to retain good employees when they encounter one.

I worked at Anchin Block & Anchin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Convenient Midtown location is the only pro

    Cons

The company got involved in numerous high-profile lawsuits and has since seen many people leave.
The tax department is a compliance shop. Huge drawback on culture. It is cut-throat, toxic atmosphere with politicking and favoritism. Employees are stressed and over-worked. Management fires people at will. Benefits are industry standard

I have been working at Anchin Block & Anchin full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Strong commitment from management to develop staff. Relaxed culture. Good work-life balance (for an accounting firm - you still have to work busy season...)

    Cons

Traditional benefits could be better but aside from that, not much.

    Advice to Management

Focus on developing staff and future leaders. Prioritize the priorities of your key up-and-comers.

    Pros

A professional environment that also has a soft side. This firm offers many fun and exciting internal and external events throughout the year.

    Cons

Not much to share here. One problem is, the building is old and there is always an issue maintaining a proper balance between the heat and the air conditioning.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work! Management pays attention to work-life balance. There is good communication between the staff members and management. The doors are always open to chat whether good or bad.

    Pros

    On par compensation and benefits.

    Cons

    Politics
Company is facing lawsuits for unethical and illegal activities.
Workers are treated as expendable resources.
Its a revolving door. But they keep criminals on.

    Advice to Management

Would have to re-think their values all together

    Pros

central location, good sick time and vacation benefits

    Cons

Partners blame staff, do not defend staff to clients, constantly engage in questionable, aggressive strategies. Over promise what can be done for clients. They bend over backwards for clients at the expense of staff. Way to top heavy.

    Advice to Management

Stand up for staff. Dont blame staff. Admitt when you are wrong. Stop taking aggressive positions. Dont look the other way when clients want to take questionable tax positions. "i didnt know about that" is used way too often.

    Pros

Relatively employee friendly with frequent, sometimes corny, internal events
Good location close to Penn Station and major transportation in New York City
Decent client base for a smaller mid-size firm
    Has clients in numerous industries

    Cons

    Very compliance oriented
    Not enough consulting assignments
Conservative management that does not think outside the box, satisfied with the status quo
Senior management generates very little new business as they are not very market facing
