I have been working at Andersen Tax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great environment, even when working long hours during tax season. Coworkers are welcoming and friendly. The interaction to upper management is frequent unlike some other firms where you don't get much face time with partners. They really want you to succeed and will do what they can to help you advance in your career.

    Cons

Long hours, but that comes with the industry/career.

I worked at Andersen Tax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent starting salary, great opportunities to learn the basics.

    Cons

Extremely long hours when compared to other mid sized or large accounting firms, favoritism, lack of leadership/direction from the top.

    Advice to Management

Work on the culture of the firm. Also hire more staff and seniors.

    Pros

Public accounting experience that you can put on your resume.

    Cons

Favoritism. Low pay. Toxic environment. No work-life balance. Bonus is a joke.

    Advice to Management

Promote people based on their qualifications, not on your personal preference. Invest more in your people.

I worked at Andersen Tax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good experience to use as a stepping stone, Free water & sodas in the fridge, decent benefits

    Cons

Absolutely ZERO work-life balance. You're working 24/7, especially during "busy" season which is essentially half of the year. No training and/or development what-so-ever. Office culture was always very negative.

    Advice to Management

Promote work-life balance & invest in your employees.

    Pros

Many of the reviews state complimentary drinks and snacks as a pro. Keep in mind this practice was discontinued before I left, so drinks and snacks are no longer provided.

    Cons

This place is an absolute joke and a sham of a real business. There is blatant favoritism and nepotism. Promotions and compensation are not based on performance, at least not performance in the office. Maybe performance in the bedroom. Diligent hardworking employees are not appreciated. Rules are made and enforced arbitrarily and inconsistently. The culture here is one based off of pettiness and there has been no effort to change this. There is a huge focus on trivial matters (drinks and snacks) while turning a blind eye to issues that matter (for example lack of training).

    Advice to Management

Get rid of MDs who are just dead weight. There doesn't seem to be anything that management is able or willing to do in order to improve, so good luck to them.

I worked at Andersen Tax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people in my office were mostly nice, but some were only tolerable at best. People are worse in other offices by far. No other pros from my perspective.

    Cons

Technology--complete joke. Systems are ancient by today's standards. Little to no innovation from a technological perspective. Little to no investment in technological innovation from what I gathered during my time there. Laptops are garbage and the systems are just as bad.

IT management--see previous comments regarding technology. Lack of education is obvious. Incompetent would be putting it nicely.

Expectations do not align with compensation package--one of the only companies in a large, metropolitan market that does not cover simple things such as parking or transit fares the way other companies in the same markets do (unless you're an "executive"--those who can afford it most pay the least).

Little to no true feedback--self-reviews are a lazy way for managers to do little to no work in actually evaluating work performance.

Career trajectory is entirely subjective--favoritism, cronyism, nepotism are the top three ways that, from my perspective, one was able to get promoted despite the fact that there were other, more qualified people that could do the job better.

HR. I don't even need to say anything else here--others have pointed out the flaws with this group and it's all true.

    Advice to Management

Invest in technological advancement. Get rid of incompetent managers. Stem favoritism, cronyism and nepotism. Stop trying to re-live the "glory days" of Arthur Andersen--those days are long over and if you truly are "best-in-class," then act like it.
