  1. "Practice what you preach...."

    Pros

Kids are great, parents are committed, invested and supportive. Lots of freedom as to methods used to teach concepts, allows for creativity and individuality as an educator trust that each teachers delivery of content is excellent and it works

    Cons

Some staff members are more like the students socially. Cliques are forked and they exude the bully and by stander behaviors toward other staff without consequence. Sad because some staff and most teachers work very hard to ensure the climate in this middle school is intolerant of those behaviors between students and the middle school experience is safe and inclusive. Good thing this age group is in a self centered stage of development and most likely doesn’t notice the poor behaviors that these “profess” are modeling. Administration has changed quite a bit in the last decade. Administration needs to practice and enforce what they preach and treat all staff the same
In regard to conduct and standards . Tree still is favoritism , rules are not the same for all staff. Little tattle tale birdies are encouraged to report back by and all things and in return....

I have been working at Andover Public Schools full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent supportive staff and great hours

    Cons

Payroll for assistants is terrible. They double deduct insurance payments for the last 2 months of school. It is horrible. And like working for free for the last 2 months.

I have been working at Andover Public Schools part-time

    Pros

I interact with all kinds of wonderful people: students, teachers, parents, administrators and have a great work schedule that aligns with that of my kids.

    Cons

Town politics can be frustrating, but that is true of many places.

I worked at Andover Public Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The schedule i worked, was great because it was the same hours as my sons scheduled day. So i was off when he was out and and had no work when he had no school.

    Cons

It was located far from my hometown, unfamiliar and the room mate i was sharing a house with was unreliable.

    Advice to Management

Give your new employees the benefit of the doubt..allow them to learn their way are the ropes before you criticize them.

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Andover Public Schools part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

like young adults school hours are great

    Cons

Lack of discipline for students. Monitors are hired at 19 hours pe week and no more. won't let you work dances or games. Police officer is useless. Hangs around all day and won't intervene with fights and things he should. No backing of administration for monitors. the only reason their there is to have someone to blame if a students gets hurt or worse to save their own overpaid careers.

    Advice to Management

Hire two full time professionals. One male one female 38 hours per week. Put the police officer back on the street where he belongs. The response time in Andover is like one and one half minutes to the high school. Instill discipline in the kids and don 't cow tow to entitled parents just to make youre job easier. THATS YOUR"E JOB!

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Andover Public Schools full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very supportive administration who are always available to answer questions and assist in problem solving. Understand that teaching isn't an easy endeavor.

    Cons

Benefits are poor. While KPERS is a great retirement system, the health insurance premiums are extremely high and the coverage is awful.

    Advice to Management

    Thanks
