I worked at Angiotech Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

The company had a strong product line which is now Surgical Specialties (with the IR business going to Argon Medical). Strong community and good leadership. Nice to work for a company that makes products that help people.

    Cons

The company went through some ups and downs in terms of growth. They had a financial restructuring that on the surface looked bad but ultimately was great for the company. Lots of changes but that happens with smaller medical device companies.

    Advice to Management

No advice needed. They took a hard look financially and did what they felt was the best decision at the time. Can't fault them for that. They also tried to engage staff as best as they could through difficult times.

    Pros

Until Angiotech, Vancouver, CA purchased Surgical Specialties in 2008, it was an upstanding well respected manufacturer? Changes have not been positive and deteriorated to present, as they are closing manufacturing operations on PR and Reading PA, to manufacture in Mexico in 2015.

    Cons

Changes have not been positive since 2008 and deteriorated to present, as they are closing manufacturing operations on PR and Reading PA, to manufacture in Mexico in 2015.

    Advice to Management

Why, They never listened to sound advice from the field.

    Pros

Local Surgical Specialties division was a great place to work with people, products, and challenges. Local Senior Managment very knowledgeable and great to work for.

    Cons

Corporate in Vancouver, Canada could use some lessens in manufacturing, development, and managment of running a non pharmaceutical company. Constant cost cutting is a strain on personnel.

    Advice to Management

Corporate delegate more responsibility down to local management. Raise salaries and benefits to a reasonable level for existing employees and to draw new talent.

I worked at Angiotech Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

In it's heyday, Angiotech was a great place to work. Great energy. Amazing business deals and financing. They put together an impressive co-exclusive licensing deal to sell their paclitaxel-coated cardiovascular stent.

    Cons

Something went wrong in 2006. Angiotech started making bad (expensive) business deals to expand their patent portfolio, with no real plans to capitalize on their acquisitions. They burned through all the cash from their early cardiovascular stent deals. Layoffs and closures followed.
