    Pros

Great perks and benefits working for a mining company. All time off is paid for and they are pretty generous with their overtime.

    Cons

They don't value software engineers as much as you'd expect

    Advice to Management

Their IT is still in the stone age, they really have to catch up on modern times.

I have been working at AngloGold Ashanti full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many opportunities to gain experience because of a large number of operations. Room for growth.

    Cons

Little capital expenditure, and hence exciting projects, at the moment due to the low gold prices.

    Pros

Seeing the progress in people that were lost in what they were doing getting on the straight road to success

    Cons

After losing a big player in my life and not having time to grieve before having a promise broken and finding myself out in the cold. People are our business please get that straight because I don't

    Advice to Management

Please look after your people expats and locals, you are big enough to be humane

    Pros

Gold mining companies are the best to start with. The harsh environment enables you to adapt quickly. Should you move on to any other commodity you will find it much easier.

    Cons

As a graduate or vacation student you are pretty much left alone in the wilderness to fend for yourself. There isn't a structured mentorship programme. Graduates wait weeks before they move on to other departments, you basically come to work to chill. The programme is not fast paced enough and your intellectual capacity is not challenged.

    Advice to Management

Have a more structured mentorship programme. Challenge the graduates practically and theoretically with research projects for example.

I worked at AngloGold Ashanti full-time

    Pros

Good remuneration, good training programmes for staff. Lots of teamwork between various mine sites in West, East and Southern Africa

    Cons

Huge differentials between expat and local staff. Lots of tensions with South African and Australian managers based in West Africa. They have issues with respect and it often made the working environment difficult.

    Advice to Management

I believe that AGA Management should do away with the entire local/expat system and just pay good people well wherever they are based. The lack of respect for local knowledge has led to a lot of problems
