I worked at Animal Health International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy job, two 10 minute breaks and hour lunch break, good benefits and employees. They had good events for holidays and fed us for weekend work.

    Cons

Constant schedule changes, always stayed 2-3 hours late. Promotions were favorites and not to people who deserved it. If you went to HR to report a problem about management she usually went and told management and gave your name to them.

I worked at Animal Health International full-time

    Pros

Most of the clients ( docs) are great! Interesting products, always learning. Lots of samples!

    Cons

Low pay. Old boys club. Most of management did not appreciate their team. Lots of phone and computer issues. Warehouse constantly lacking inventory.

    Advice to Management

Value your team from top to bottom. Get with the times. Listen to your people. Solve problems, instead of ignoring them.

remote as service , no support team to call when in a bind, Use you only to bailing themselves out when they are in a jam , no notice , told laid off .nothing but lousy backstabbing management. No care to employees or customers only a number to them.

    Advice to Management

give more back to employees just a thank you would of been nice

I worked at Animal Health International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Longevity of history, focus on animals.

    Cons

Male only executive team, founder is too frugal to be sophisticated, highly tenured team makes operations archaic, CEO is racist and sexist - lies to those in front of him about those behind him.

    Advice to Management

Change is good, create diversity, create opportunities and pay your employees a competitive salary. In addition, move the corporate headquarters to a less smelly city.

Production was the King.. Companion Division was the "Red headed Step child"
Once the merger happened, it was every man for him/herself
    Sometimes- poor management support

    Advice to Management

Why did you sell??? Stupid, greedy Move

I worked at Animal Health International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

No weekends, major holidays off, adequate PTO, full benefits offered, employee stock offered, recently acquired by Patterson Companies, flexible with "life" situations such as doctors appointments, etc.

    Cons

Management is lacking leadership skills, company has very little organization and infrastructure, warehouse makes a lot of mistakes, pay is low, benefits are expensive, long hours, pricing system often has faults, employees openly gossip, management does not "manage".

    Advice to Management

Manage and value your employees. Be open to offering help and advice.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Animal Health International full-time

    Pros

Engaging company, willing to take suggestions from others and incorporate them into operations. They generally encourage outside-the-box thinking, and, in IT, are willing to support new concepts and technologies.

    Cons

There is a strong sense of "Good 'ol Boys" club in their leadership dynamics. Many employees are past the 20 year mark which, while a testament to their retention, leans the leadership towards a closed circle that is difficult to join and near impossible to separate. Additionally, the company is hesitant to spend money on things that appear flashy or upscale for fear of negative customer or vendor reaction. This is apparent in bare bones company vehicles bought used, facility quality, and visible technology.

    Advice to Management

There has to be some give and take in some of these areas. Saving money on facility type or location in some cases is good, but in others it compromises individual safety and functionality. Approaching each building as a benefit to the community at large may significantly improve this situation, depending on locations.

I have been working at Animal Health International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Before they got too big this was a great place to work. The people were a pleasure to work with and you left there at the end of the day feeling like you did a good job.

    Cons

Steer clear from the Liberty, MO location unless you are prepared to move in and leave your life outside of work. Start time is 7am and quitting time is anywhere from 6pm to 11pm. You never feel like you are getting anything done because no matter what you do they just expect more. Not open to any ideas or suggestions. Too worried about unrealistic goals; KPI's.

    Advice to Management

Show your employees that they matter. Even a small amount of appreciation goes a long way. People have families and would like to see them in the evenings.
