I have been working at Ankrom Moisan Architects full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Easygoing, open, collaborative culture. Very little internal politics. Great work... lots of independence, leadership that 'gets it'. Egos don't run rampant. Bad clients are rare, if not completely absent.

    Cons

Seattle office is treated as a satellite of the main Portland office, although this doesn't really impact the day-to-day work.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up! The trajectory is all positive!

    Pros

principals are approachable and respectful. the seattle office is a nice environment to work in but the company overspent on the build. relax environment with a decent work culture. people get a long and work together nicely.

    Cons

company pays low and paasive aggressively demands people to work over time. most all of their projects are junky developer project (how can we shove as many 500sf apartments onto this given property and make it look livable). the work is very dry, mostly drafting and documenting. raises are bad as well as annual bonuses. promotions are "titles" with no pay raise and more work responsibility. no chance of growth here....

    Pros

    - Relaxed atmosphere and welcoming environment (at least prior to layoffs) - Great benefits (Medical/Dental/Vision)

    Cons

This company is experiencing major financial issues. In the past two months they've gone through two rounds of layoffs, getting rid of over 50 employees. They’ve gotten rid of any office perks (beer/wine, travel, educational benefits, conferences, etc). Employee morale is at a new low. The last two years have been record profit years. Then in a single year they decided to move the Seattle...

    Advice to Management

If you want the company to make a profit and rescue yourselves from the bad decisions you’ve made, you need to have a concrete plan. If you can’t come up with an actionable, concrete plan then it’s time to get someone in who will. Upper management needs to hire some employees who have actually been to business school.

I have been working at Ankrom Moisan Architects full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Opportunities are given to everyone if they pursue the things they want to do. Great offices and work environments Great people. They do good work overall, so the finished projects are rewarding if you've worked on them.

    Cons

Not much help is given if you don't seek it out. Portland vs Seattle office work culture can clash from time to time.

    Advice to Management

Keep a closer eye on the abilities of your employees, and highlight resources when you see exceptional talent.

I worked at Ankrom Moisan Architects full-time

    Pros

The environment is positive and supportive. There is a genuine desire to make it a good place to work. The people here are for the most part good people.

    Cons

The Seattle office grew rapidly and tripled in size in a few years. They kept the mentality of a scrappy upstart firm (because they felt that image served them) while trying grow and execute projects beyond the capabilities of that kind of firm. So they introduced corporate feeling elements and ended up with the worst of both worlds. Upper management lacks the skills need to...

    Advice to Management

Reacquaint yourselves with what it actually takes to complete a project. Put a pillow over the face of the "elevate design" initiative and bear down until it stops kicking. There are projects you are already under contract to deliver on and not doing a great job. Plus it's creating a class system within your own architectural staff.

I have been working at Ankrom Moisan Architects full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-The office culture at the Seattle office is unlike anywhere else I've ever worked. It is a very laid back, friendly, helpful, encouraging group of people. This is the first firm I've worked at where I've seen people put their work aside to help other co-workers who have too much on their plate. There are lots of fun office events to mingle with each other (bowling, sailing, karaoke) . I laugh with my co-workers every...

    Cons

-If you are the kind of person that waits to be told what to do, you may lose your way here. It is a very fast paced environment and there isn't much micromanagement. -The Seattle office is growing at a very rapid rate (tons of work!), so they are just implementing some structure in the firm now and sometimes that can cause confusion.

    Advice to Management

-Keep up the good work! -Implement a little more structure into the firm.
