I have been working at Ann Summers part-time for more than a year

    Pros

50% staff discount on all products

    Cons

Expect staff to come in early/stay late without always being paid for it, even though you are encouraged to work up this is only to a team leader position and you get paid pennies more than sales staff, poor training means some management don't know how to do things, little to no mental health support even though they say they do help

I worked at Ann Summers part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good part-time job to have. There were always extra shifts which had its downfalls but is overall great if you need overtime. Seemed to have good progression also 4 hour shifts

    Cons

I found that the managers in the stores fed into the catty arguments from sales assistants. As a manager I think you should rise above it.

    Advice to Management

Try to resolve any personal issues between staff within contributing to petty dramas.

I worked at Ann Summers full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Ignoring the senior management most of the people are really nice and very easy to get along with. I would say the discount but generally the products are priced higher than competitors so you'd generally be paying the correct price once your staff discount was applied. I've seen a lot of flaws to look out for in other companies.

    Cons

This business doesn't actually know what its doing. They have genuinely have nearly 100% turnover in staff! They run a party plan channel that never makes a profit and they can only say its beating the previous year as that was so low it couldn't get any worse. Its a family vanity project thats more like a noose. Their strategy every year i worked for the company was virtually identical to the previous year just... reworded. Even then it was watered down after 3 months of action because they could never reach it. Completely unrealistic expectations. Who remembers 20 million by 2020! The senior management are in their own little world and if you disagree with their way then you might as well not turn up anymore. They will disregard you irrespective of your experience or knowledge and continually make the same mistakes rehashing failed ideas tried years previously. There is no point in having experience here as it means nothing to them. Many of the seniors management have unsurprisingly come from other failing high street retailer and then brought in their "friends". Which knowing how bad Ann Summers are trading now explains a lot. Don't start on the building, seriously one stairwell is held up with duck tape, has been for at least 5 years. The canteen area hasn't seen fresh paint in even longer. Your office won't get cleaned unless you bother doing it. They just purchased and isntalled a new system but ignored everyone that spoke against it. Ever worked with a system that couldn't provide you with profit or basic sales information. Maybe a B&M system set up by a finance team. The list is endless. If your commuting from anywhere that goes near central London don't bother with Ann Summers. You can earn more from a company that genuinely cares about you without the blame culture. This companies culture is on par with Arcadia. Progression only exists if the person above you leaves but you will have to fight to even get a role profile or progression plan. Just made to do their work for several months. Then the pay will several thousand less than any other retailer but you will have to work jobs above and beyond your role because its more cost effective for them to work you harder than to invest in a structured department. This is the fundament flaw. The lack of staff in head office means everyone is stretched too far. It will continue to fail as a business until it address this and builds on its teams rather than blaming them for its shortcomings. Remove a few directors and invest in some admins. They will be far more cost efffective seeing as many heads and directors also charge the company to stay at a local hotel and for their travel when they bother to turn up for work.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging and realised you are the problem. This is a business being financially taken advantage of by the senior team. People leave managers, not companies.
