I worked at Ann Taylor part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun atmosphere, great discounts on clothes. For a competitive, fun and fast paced environment you will thrive.

    Cons

For the amount of work you do, the benefits are not equal. Sometimes management overlooks you.

    Advice to Management

Look in on your sales associates and all they do. The managers play politics and sometimes throw other managers/ and or associates under the bus.

I worked at Ann Taylor (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing employee discount and reward system. Promotes within. Flexibility to transfer locations. The Brand is very customer focused and honest. Lots of bonding and outings.

    Cons

Catty, competitive culture. Terrible salary, only dollars more than level 1 employees. No creative liberty. Promotes based on friendships not merit. Dealt with issues by figuring out who to scapegoat and fire (as a manager, I was instructed to do this twice). Managers who aren't promoted but hired externally, receive no training and rely on store employees. The turnover rate is extremely high for management, most don't last 6 months. There aren't clear separations of duties so SM's usually rely heavily on the Leads and Co's, which I think could be a reason they leave so quickly.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with the same respect and regard as you do your customers. Follow up with managers in person (over email they'll always gloss over real issues). Unplanned visits so you can get a real look at what everyday culture is like.

I worked at Ann Taylor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -50% discount on clothes
    -Flexible hours
    -Great co-workers

Ann Inc. is a good company, overall. Your experience with the company will vary largely upon the location of your store, your store manager, and your co-workers. I worked at Loft in 2 different states. My experience in Chicago was rocky at first, but my managers and co-workers were always supportive. When I relocated, my experience was absolutely terrible. I worked with very young people who did not want to work and had no connection to the brand. My store manager was rude, petty, and micromanaged my every move. I was reminded on how to do my job every 10 minutes, even though I had been with the company long enough to know how to do my job. When I quit, I was threatened and then was not spoken to for the remainder of my employment with the company.

    Cons

-Upholding company wide policies depends upon the store manager and location in which you work
    -Micromanaging
-Poor pay for quite a bit of work
    -Lack of support from management
-Rude customers; customers can do VERY disgusting things in your fitting room
-Quality of clothing has sharply declined

    Advice to Management

Trust your associates, especially if you offered them a temporary management position
