I have been working at Anne Arundel County Public Schools part-time

    Pros

Decent pay, easy to use job announcement site, awesome staff, great kids

    Cons

The phone system calls you a lot but you can update your contact information so that it doesn't call you at all.

I have been working at Anne Arundel County Public Schools full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    healthcare benefits are very good

    Cons

    1. Salaries are not competitive due to failure to give teachers the step increases they were informed they would receive when they were hired.
    2. Climate - the top down management style toward teachers is condescending, scornful, dictatorial and outdated. Class sizes exceed the limits and increasingly unmanageable workloads result in burn out low morale and high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Respect teachers. Honor your agreements to provide salary step increases. Cap class size to no more than 30 students and monitor work load so that the 37.5 hours per week we are contracted to work is honored.

I worked at Anne Arundel County Public Schools full-time

    Pros

Hours were good, more days off a year. Unbelievable health insurance and an actual pension

    Cons

Very high school clique environment unlike any I'd ever encountered at an employer before. If you weren't liked then you were whispered about constantly. My supervisor repeatedly tried to warn me in oblique and cryptic language that I apparently was not in the clique. I guess I didn't get what she was saying because ultimately she bowed to the pressure of the whisper campaign and let me go with many false claims for why (accuracy errors that never occurred was the main one). Glad I'm gone honestly.

    Advice to Management

No office should be a clique of mean girls (most in their 50's mind you). It simply shouldn't be tolerated. And no one should lose a job because they don't fit the mold of said clique of mean girls but is otherwise a great employee. Shame on HR management for allowing this atmosphere.

I have been working at Anne Arundel County Public Schools full-time

    Pros

The health care plans available through the district are very helpful. There is tons of opportunity for professional development.

    Cons

The pay is ridiculous and absurd for new teachers who don’t teach math or SPED. They have to stay on a scale for 3 years, then get a pay increase. If you had prior years of experience.....forget that even existed unless you teach math Or SPED

    Advice to Management

Use real photos of your hard working teachers and not stock photos.

    Pros

BRILLIANT STUDENTS (as always), NICE LOOKING SCHOOLS

    Cons

YOU ARE STUCK IN YOUR NEGATIVE PARADIGMS

    Advice to Management

Your managers, principals, and consequently teachers are NEGATIVE. You are stuck in the Past, and your negative culture inspires your people to LOOK OUT FOR NUMBER ONE only. Your students are so much more capable than you bother to notice. Your focus is JUST GET THE DAY OVER WITH, DON'T MAKE WAVES, AND COLLECT THE PAYCHECK. Your lowest priority is actually enabling the students to be what they are actually capable of being, of which you have ZERO CLUE. The USA has the finest students and the worst schools on the planet. But you couldn't care less because your only priority is GETTING THAT PAYCHECK. Shame on you, AACPS.
