High Pressure, High Stress
Oct 27, 2020 - Telephone Operator in Butler, NJRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- They are always hiring, and have been for at least the last twenty years. - Schedule is fairly static. Usually work 4 set weekdays and every other weekend both days with every other weekend off.
Cons
This job is technically easy, but practically it is very high stress more often than not. You answer phones for people who have forwarded them to you. Mostly doctors offices after hours. When things go smoothly, something happens like it's 9PM and a patient calls with what they think might be an emergency, to talk to their doctor. The operator would page the doctor on-call and they would call back the patient. What ends up happening is things like, the doctor doesn't call back, and the patient ends up calling you all night irate. Or the doctor DOES call in for the message, and says something like, "oh that person is crazy, that doesn't sound like much of an emergancy, thanks for the message." Then the patient calls back in an hour and you look up their record and see that, and of course cannot relay it to the patient. Or tens of people calling at 9-10AM for an office with hours that start at 8AM and you answer the phone with no professional way to explain why the office staff is in but just doesn't feel like answering their own phones yet. Basically, every person you talk to for an entire shift doesn't want to be talking to you, and it's exhausting and unhealthy.

Decent work from home job, but too fast-paced with low pay
Oct 2, 2020 - Remote in Butler, NJRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Fixed schedule, work from home option
Cons
Low pay, only one 30-minute "break" daily, required to work alternating weekends, basically no holidays off, micromanaging

The owners are family oriented & able to accommodate shift changes when done in advance. They pay for your education & offer many different ways to advance within the company. The owners are very friendly & active in the community.
Cons
Their point system sets some up for failure. If you are 1min late signing on you are subject to 2pts. If you are chummy with the Senior manager or a shift supervisor they could let you slide. The other side is, if anyone gets temperamental with you, they will write you up for every little thing.

Worst place I’ve ever worked in my entire life!
Aug 8, 2018 - Anonymous Employee in Butler, NJRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The only thing that makes this job appealing is the fact that you can get The exact schedule that you’re looking for which makes it a great appeal for parents
Cons
Having to deal with people on the phone Horace sick trying to schedule appointments taking messages for doctors and hearing people complaining day in and day out is mentally taxing. Management is an absolute joke they pull you to do overtime they nitpick and micromanage any little thing that you do so they have a reason to fire you and half the time they fire people without realizing that you’re doing the wrong thing and then try to take Unemployment from you and you have to fight for it and ultimately they end up losing because Unemployment realized that they fired you wrongfully . They don’t pay well they start you off at a horrible wage bump it up to a dollar more later and keep asking you to do more than what was required of you when you first got hired and refused to pay you what you’re supposed to be paying at any other cost center especially if your multi lingual and they want you to answer the phones in English or Spanish and yet they refuse to pay you accordingly. Other call centers will pay you at least 2 to 3 dollars more if you’re Bilingual

Not an ideal job...
Sep 26, 2018 - Telephone Operator in Butler, NJRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Fast paced, work from home capabilities, open 24/7, convenient shifts available and competitive pay. Employee appreciation.
Cons
Many of the accounts seem to be from pure greed. These accounts have the nastiest employees and the most ignorant customers. Dealing with these people is a nightmare. Horrible shift managers who have no idea how to manage. Most are contradicting and unhelpful. The employees and managers alike roll into work practically in pajamas which is clearly transferred onto calls. This is a job in which you become burnt out and bitter quickly.
