I have been working at Antelope Valley Hospital full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers are educated, quick on their feet and you can always find help if you ask.
    Self scheduling.
    12 hour shifts.
Great place to learn as there are a lot of truly sick patients and traumas.

    Cons

    Management is a revolving door.
Lack of working equipment slows down care delivery time and patient satisfaction.
The ED looks dirty no matter how many times it is cleaned.
ED capacity is only half the size of what it should be.
    Low nurse retention.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to make changes. We need real leadership.

I worked at Antelope Valley Hospital full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good peer support, most of them are nice. The cafe offers good food and the staff is friendly. I enjoyed the gift shop.

    Cons

Demeaning and punitive director, very rude and dismissive. SEIU works hard to bring bad employees back bringing down morale. Heavy work load, low pay, dont make any mistakes or youll never hear the end of it, back biting nurse directors that act like high school kids, and watch your work and document because sabotage happens a lot. I am literally the 9th employee to leave my department within 7 months, Ive seen employees get written up for no reason, horrible... no or very little training, equal pay act violations for non-bargaining group, no raises or very little because whats left is given to union employees, I literally felt sick going there everyday!

    Advice to Management

Stop firing everyone, listen to your employees, turnover and constant job openings for a reason... you seriously need leadership training both of my directors were very abusive.

    Pros

Plenty overtime. Able to float when you want. Small unit.

    Cons

Not the best work environment. Unless you are in you are out.

    Advice to Management

Despite her caring of employees, Director is fighting an uphill battle with most RNs. Unfortunately, she cannot be everywhere.

I have been working at Antelope Valley Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Really great trauma center serving a large area. Amazing autonomy practiced in the ER as an RT. I can count on one hand how many reliable RTs we have, but when they're there it's so great to work with them. I like a lot of the RN staff and ER physicians the most.

    Cons

Always short staffed in the RT department. RTs given preferential treatment and workloads. A lot of drama, gossip and backstabbing. A lot of lazy people abusing medical leave services. A lot of RTs getting away with too much BS... but not now that Alecto is here.

    Advice to Management

Good job on firing people in our RT dept. who are dead weight and of no use in our department. I welcome Alecto to the RT dept. It's the change that we needed. No more going home early, clocking in late, or abusing sick calls. YES!!!
