I have been working at Anthony Nolan full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Incredible cause to work for and a real breadth of roles and opportunities to those fortunate enough to get them/driven enough to seek them out. Come a long long way since I started working here, a real vision to do good and to strive to continually get better (although sometimes a bit backwards about going forwards, but we seem to be improving!)

    Cons

Things seem to be either too thought through or not enough... either a 'strategy' is created where an action plan would suffice or stuff happens without enough prior thought and planning

    Advice to Management

Even when you think you are communicating things well, it could be clearer, more timely and with better follow up.... just a wordy email doesn't tick the boxes

    Pros

People are very passionate, committed and enthusiastic.
There is a clear organisational strategy and a number of divisional strategies that dovetail with the overall aims.
It is easy to get new ideas tested and there is a growing culture of innovation.

    Cons

There are some legacy systems that need an overall (which are being worked on)
Pace of some change (IT) can seem slow.
There is a lot going - so some streamlining of activity is required.

    Advice to Management

Start the planning process earlier and ensure operational plans are not developed in silos.

    Cons

Salaries in the Laboratories are lower than the corresponding ones in the NHS.

    Budget more for staff costs

I worked at Anthony Nolan full-time

    Pros

The majority of people who work for the organisation is passionate about saving lives. There is a great culture of work socials with numerous clubs etc.

    Cons

The leadership at mid-senior level isn't great. The pay is deliberately kept at the low end. At times, different departments can't see past their own turf and, consequently sabotage for the cause as a whole.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a greater commitment across departments for the organisation's visit. IT, fundraising and HR should work together.

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Anthony Nolan full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    It's got great brand awareness.
    The people were mostly friendly.

    Cons

Pay very unequal - many people who do the same job are being paid very differently.
People aren't as passionate about what they do as they are at other charities.
    I never felt listened to.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff and pay staff who do the same job the same amount.
