I worked at Any Mountain part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Staff is awesome- some are now great friends of mine! Lots of free schwag and discounts. Cool industry to work in and fun to learn more about. Management was mostly understanding and reasonable with any issues or personal struggles of mine.

    Cons

Hours were inconsistent. No pay raises after reviews. Occasionally there was a lack of positive reinforcement and achievements were not recognized. Not a lot of growth opportunities within Any Mountain. Upper management beyond the store and cooperate didn't seem to care about us.

    Advice to Management

Any mountain management is overall good and only improving.

Vail management however could show more support and care for their any mountain family. Coperate often chooses making more money over doing right by lower level employees.

I worked at Any Mountain full-time

    Pros

Parks of working here are access to discount websites and free employee pass to Vail resorts.

    Cons

Low pay for work done. Some of upper management is extremely incompetent and on s total power trip. Telling us we are doing things wrong with either little to no help at all

    Advice to Management

Better assistant managers. Require all managers to be informed on all aspects of jobs within store.

I worked at Any Mountain part-time

    Pros

Very good work environment. Layout of the store and co-workers are both exceptional. Was a great part time winter job for a current student.

    Cons

I would advise a better system for checking out rental gear as many times it got extremely hectic where employees could not keep up with demand. In some instances customers got upset

    Pros

The workers are caring and compassionate to each other and guests.

    Cons

Very high turnover in high level positions. All of the good employees leave within 1- 2 years. No matter what level you are on you feel like a number working for Vail Resorts.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees better.

I worked at Any Mountain part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They provided a ski season pass to the Vail resorts in the winter. Other resorts had agreements that allowed you to get inexpensive tickets for yourself. There was a decent employee discount programs on equipment.
None of my managers were ever unfair to me. My co-workers were some very nice people. You can make commission during the busy season easily and it can add up to a good amount but it's highly schedule and weather dependent.

    Cons

Scheduling was often a mess. Managers tried to keep tweaking payroll to sales up until the last minute so I sometimes wouldn't know my schedule three days out, though this was often during the busy winter.

The work is largely seasonal. This is basically a winter sports store that stays open all year. Its easy enough to get hired during the ramp up to winter (September-October) but you're likely to get dropped around April-May unless you really stand out. Also, since so little is happening during the summer you don't do a lot.
You are expected to do the usual retail stuff, bug people to death (customer service!), etc. The company issues coupons but they are highly restricted so you have to argue with people about this constantly. Though they don't have you pitch the scammiest stuff (credit cards and warranties), it can be soul sucking to have to give people sales pitches when you know if you were on the receiving end you'd hate.

    Advice to Management

Living at the whim of the scheduler sucks. Switch to an online remotely accessible scheduling posting program.
