I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great culture and business model that align with the clients and lines of businesses that they serve. Would not advise much change.

    Cons

Traveling and constant updates which are standard business practices that most firms embrace for requirements which clients demand and should expect.

    Advice to Management

    Be more open to employees

I have been working at Aon Hewitt full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I get to work from home. The cons are starting to outweigh the pros. Hopefully Blackstone will improve the company.

    Cons

No investment is made in employee tools and technology. The company talks about developing employee skills for advancement, but managers don't know anything about or want employee advancement. Every year managers apologize for low or no raises. Managers are told to lower employee review ratings to deny raises.

    Advice to Management

Upper management is out of touch with employees. They don't pay attention to engagement surveys (when the company sent them). If decent raises improve engagement, then give decent raises. The company spent money on the Pace app to micromanage employees. How much did that cost? Employees are an investment, not an expense. Also, pay attention to employees who take advantage of working from home so they don't have to pay for daycare. Conference calls are frustrating when children are whining or playing in the background.

I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people and managers are expected to help their people grow.
Good work environment, comfortable office setting, and ability to work from home for some positions.

    Cons

Low pay, difficult to move from one department to another, and losing many very good and long tenured people.

    Advice to Management

Make it easier to move departments. I witnessed several very qualified people who were turned down for department moves due to subjective matrices; most notably manager review being 0.1% less than required amount even though the employee was doing about 20% of the managers duties for team support. After securing other employment offers for positions were made, but it was too late and too little money.

I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Able to work virtually.
Used to have a really good team spirit.

    Cons

I worked here for 15 years. A couple of years ago there was a re-org in Benefits IT where we were all placed into new roles. Some genius decided I should be a COBOL Developer, despite me having never touched COBOL in my life. It was subsequently held against me that I wasn't efficient with COBOL.
My manager after the re-org clearly had it in for me from the start, she was very political and unethical. All smiles on group calls, then she would screw me on my annual reviews, much to the amazement of other team members.

Do not work here. They use proprietary tools and you will lose all your industry standard skills.

    Advice to Management

Keep and eye on your managers. Not all of them do a good job and some are very unethical.
If you do a re-org, put people in roles where they can succeed.

Morale is awful in Benefits IT. People don't need to hang around and be treated so badly.
