    Pros

There are a number of good hearted talented employees

    Cons

Highly segmented and isolated atmosphere with zero esprit de corp. Also some management has adopted a rule by fear and intimidation approach - employees are treated as resources and the complete lack of mission is depressing. Team building "empowerment" emails are a sad joke.

I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hours. cafeteria onsite. Coworkers. location. flex time availability.

    Cons

Promised Overtime during the interview to compensate for the salary starting rate (they started me at the max per HR). Found out there is no overtime, if you work late, you come in late the next day, OT is not allowed.

    Advice to Management

    No problem with management.

I worked at Aon Hewitt as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Variety of food available in the cafeteria was good.
The managers were nice, but some of the supervising employees suck!

    Cons

The place is humongous and with lunches limited to 30 minutes only, it was difficult to get to the cafeteria, get your food and sit down to eat it before you had to take the extremely long trek back to your desk.

The work hours for the temps and contracted employees are crazy long, especially with them only offering 30 minute lunches.

If you are hoping to get hired in this place, forget it. Everyone that works here is either a temp, a contracted employee, or a permanent person working on borrowed time. What I mean by that is, if you get hired and the work you do is for another company (this is a TPA Company : a Third Party Administrator) If that company does not need the number of employees doing their work for them and want Aon Hewitt to downsize the number of employees, then you may still lose your job. So, with that said, don't go and buy a house or a car if you are working for them, because you may lose it.

    No Benefits or Vacation
    Work/Life Balance is non-existent

I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of benefit option, great 401k

    Cons

Upper management had favorites and if you were not one of the chosen ones you had a real hard time.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to all employees

I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They used to have free lunch and breakfast but not any more. The walk around the lake at lunch was nice.

    Cons

You could be a teacher and get paid more. They changed the benefits but didn't change the pay scale. If you were on the healthcare side you worked insane hours during open enrollment.

    Advice to Management

Pay your people or get acquired....oh, wait....never mind.

I worked at Aon Hewitt full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Able to work virtually.
Used to have a really good team spirit.

    Cons

I worked here for 15 years. A couple of years ago there was a re-org in Benefits IT where we were all placed into new roles. Some genius decided I should be a COBOL Developer, despite me having never touched COBOL in my life. It was subsequently held against me that I wasn't efficient with COBOL.
My manager after the re-org clearly had it in for me from the start, she was very political and unethical. All smiles on group calls, then she would screw me on my annual reviews, much to the amazement of other team members.

Do not work here. They use proprietary tools and you will lose all your industry standard skills.

    Advice to Management

Keep and eye on your managers. Not all of them do a good job and some are very unethical.
If you do a re-org, put people in roles where they can succeed.

Morale is awful in Benefits IT. People don't need to hang around and be treated so badly.

I have been working at Aon Hewitt full-time

    Pros

you get good benefits for medical, dental, 401k, and pension.

    Cons

It is very difficult to get them to assist with anything. I am attempting to go to school but due to my schedule I can't but they will not switch me to another schedule. It also is very hard to move up without brown nosing.

    Advice to Management

Fix the outdated mandates of the company and start caring a little bit about your employees. turnover in the company is horrible and your solutions never work.

I worked at Aon Hewitt (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good structure to work within because they actually train you to use their tools and learn their processes. Very good benefits and decent pay. Ability to work from home.

    Cons

Due dates are unreasonable. Very stressful environment to work in. Management is not very experienced or helpful as a resource. Most have very little professional experience outside of Hewitt or training in people management. They tend to pigeon hold their employees who are doing well in one area.

    Advice to Management

Really consider taking getting some additional education or training to learn how to manage people and motivate your employees. It doesn't make good business sense to put so much pressure on your team members to the point of discouraging them until they quit. When I was an employee nearly everyone that I knew quit because their personal managers put so much pressure on them that it no longer was a healthy environment to work in.
