    Pros

    Cons

Not much room for growth for minorities and female. Predominantly white male managers are promoted or hired for director and above roles.

I worked at Apache full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only pro about working in this role is that you will be exposed to all facets regarding Oil & Gas business practices.

    Cons

This is a highly demanding, pressure-cooking job and the pay is not worth the hassle to the lack of work-life balance that you will experience. Executive admins will make significantly more salary and only support one c-level exec whereas you will have to support all the executives and their admins. You will be pulled in so many directions and will not be backed up by IT management. You are literally on your own since no one wants to handle or interact with executives since there are walking land mines everywhere. You can provide the best customer service and will be back-stabbed and bad-mouthed by minimally talented executive admins.

There is a long history regarding this IT Executive Desktop Support role. You will be told that they could not find the "right person" but the truth is that no one that has ever worked in this role has lasted longer than a year. This role becomes open year after year for the next unsuspecting prospective employee. It is shameful that Apache has not corrected this issue but this is very telling regarding their management and culture.

I worked at Apache full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

In the hay day of oil (2012), pay was good.

    Cons

No forward thinking, too consumed by saving dollars in the short term instead of long term changes that reap better rewards. No review of facility designs for safety or efficiency. Serious risks for operations personnel having to operate or supervise Apache production. No vetting or review of management and leaders for keeping them honest or professionally responsible.

    Advice to Management

Review all levels of your management, many of your leaders are just the opposite of leaders. No development of the better talented staff (engineers and geologists). They only care about personal gain, battling for position at the top, all CYA style management.

I have been working at Apache full-time

    Pros

Apache's compensation to employees is above average among competitors. Management structure is flat, because there are only few opportunities for management, technical experts are really well compensated. Best bonus structure I have seen. For an employee ~15 years of experience expect close to 100% bonus (including stock options).
Apache has a gym, a daycare (outside operated) and cafeteria on site.

    Cons

Upper management listened too much to Wall Street, putting too much money in unconventionals, and now it's paying the price.
Not many upward mobility opportunities for women or minorities, basically a white male dominated company.
Offer more training for experienced employees, not only for new hires.

    Advice to Management

Invest more money and personnel in highly profitable assets like Egypt, stop wasting money in unconventionals, at least for now.

I have been working at Apache full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Learn a ton, get LOTS of experience quickly.

    Cons

Compensation is WELL below the market. Hardest workers are just building their resume so they can leave to go to a better paying company.

    Advice to Management

You will lose your best talent quickly. Cost cutting is important now, but you need to keep your best people at least somewhat near the market's comparable compensation.

I have been working at Apache (Less than a year)

    Pros

Generally favorable benefits. Diverse industry exposure.

    Cons

Production growth focus oversimplifies a very complicated industry.

    Advice to Management

Change the incentives to reflect ROR, cash flow, reserve replacement and the decision making will improve.

    Pros

Love the people. I feel empowered to make decisions and feel supported by management.

    Cons

Hate the traffic to and from work. The commute to and from the Galleria is terrible.

    Advice to Management

I like our direction and am really encouraged by what I'm seeing at the top. Decisions appear to be smart ones getting the organization more streamlined and not so top-heavy.

    Pros

I had the most amazing boss I have ever had. An amazing work family.

    Cons

I can't think of any cons. The only stress I've had is the misfortune of being forced to find another job because of Apache closing the Tulsa office.

    Advice to Management

You are losing some fantastic talent in Tulsa.

    Pros

Great stock program for all employees. Very helpful for retirement planning. Cost of living raises are also good, along with merit raises.

    Cons

Terrible management. promotion of less-qualified employees, topped with CEO taking company down a terrible path since 2008, then retiring after making sure he got his...there's no more consideration of employees.
