I worked at Apex Tool Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent employee benefits, if I could go back to this job, I would! But they closed my local branch in 2014. So sad...

    Cons

Somewhat disorganized at service level. It's like they forget there are other employees besides the one in Apex and LEXINGTON

    Advice to Management

Have a service policy for all
    Locations

I have been working at Apex Tool Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have worked with some of the best and brightest coworkers I have known. Also there is plenty of room to move (both physical locations and professionally).

    Cons

Both company and plant operate at VERY high speed which leads to overstretched resources and multiple dropped projects. Cannot see to get past reactionary/fire-fighter mode and get pro-active about development and improvement.

    Advice to Management

Too many projects/decisions are created with a time-line in mind before they are given to the appropriate team for execution. The way to be successful in project deployment is to give the team the general project and goals, and let them set their time-line based on their resources. Then if you need to push back for a quicker implementation, they can tell you what additional resources are needed to meet that expectation.

    Pros

Good Pay. Most of the people are friendly and are willing to help you if and when they can.

    Cons

Benefits could be better and less expensive.

    Advice to Management

They should be treated just like the production workers; if they mess up then they should accept responsibility.

I worked at Apex Tool Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible work hours. Not bad benefits.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic processes, including HR, but especially for R&D which has become just D. Extreme focus on core competences while ignoring other and related technologies.
Promotions only for managerial positions, if one is lucky. Do not expect a carrier growth if you are an engineer. But there are exceptions.

    Advice to Management

Management has to learn what a leadership actually means. There is a whole theory about leadership, and how it differs from management.
