I have been working at Apogee Enterprises full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great culture and values along with all sorts of perks and benefits. The ESPP and 401(K) are great, there is tuition reimbursement, decent PTO, great medical, dental, LTD/STD, etc. The benefits are some of the best in the region. There is good mobility within the company and its business units, and positions are advertised internally before they go external. Bonuses are quite good.

    Cons

There are some communications and cooperation issue between departments and teams. It's not bad, but it's far from perfect. Salary increases within the same job title can be disappointing. Quality of managers does very between departments, so not everyone will wind up happy.

I worked at Apogee Enterprises full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

End businesses that make Apogee what it is are full of caring individuals dedicated to their brand.

    Cons

The management at Apogee that oversees how the organizations operate are out of touch with reality. They attempt to apply a one size fits all IT solution to each of the business units - and this simply will not work.

    Pros

Good CEO. Some management is good.

    Cons

Unfair on-call pay policy. Impossible to exceed expectations during review. Low pay. Employees who aren’t at Apogee Headquarters in Minneapolis are an after thought. Constantly adding more responsibility with no pay increase.

I worked at Apogee Enterprises full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some good managers, co-workers. You'll never be bored.

    Cons

Apogee is ran like an underfunded, understaffed MSP. You have over 10 child companies to support, with different budgets, different management, different architectures, different requirements, different developers, and different applications. However, all do pretty much the same thing (make glass coatings), and have the same IT state (old). It's constant fire fighting. If you do get money to upgrade, it's a fight to get any sort of outage window to implement (even an hour or two a month on a Saturday night). Also, Apogee moved it's new IT staff to the Twin Cities. Old staff still resides at a company in Owatonna. There's a rift between old and new staff that is another thing that makes working at Apogee challenging. Lastly, it's difficult to bring skilled people in, due to Apogee not keeping pay competitive with the Twin Cities IT market.
